hi everyone,

I'm totally confused!!LOL I've read everything here and my head is still spinning.

Ok.. here goes. I moved to the U.S. on Jan 12 of this year(on a K-1) I got married on the 18th(YAY me!!) haha and I applied for E.I on the 21st. They just sent me a letter asking my citizenship and for my EAD number which I don't have yet..so naturally I called and they said blah blah..maybe you need it you maybe you don't....depends on who reviews your case... did I do something wrong when filling out the application? I'm feeling a bit like I am about to be bitten right in the butt! I haven't filled this out and sent it back yet... Is this usual? this letter?

Thanx in advance

Shawna

Yes - EI is confused :) I have the same situation as your's...no clue why they asked what my citizenship was,,,cuz DUH, I just sent you my ROE (which showed I worked in Canada and they have my SIN #.

I would call since it's faster. I made photocopiues of my passport and I94 etc...and faxed them to the person I spoke to.

Good luck. I think they're just ensuring they've asked all the questions

I think for EAD number, I just put down the K-1 visa number. Not really sure. In any regards, just add a separate sheet of paper saying you're a K-1 visa holder and send in a copy of your K-1 and I-94 (front and back). Should be good to go.

Does the telephone service work for sending in claims? I've noticed the internet option doesn't work in the US, but when I tried to send my card info in through the phone it said it was disconnected.

I spoke to an actual person using the Out Of Canada claims unit number

1-800-206-7218 was the number on my assessment letter

If you look a few posts above, I too had trouble connecting, apparently 'all the lines were busy' :) Try again and try often till you get through

by 'real' I meant the EAD from the AOS package. So you 'technically' can work for 90 days when you enter on the K1, but then you're in a state of limbo until the more perm. one arrives (or the GC if you were lucky and it came quickly)

The EI lady told me that when they consider me eligible is for the 90 days from the day you entered the US...and thus validated your K1 (married within 90 days blah lah blah)

Then...your claim goes on hold until they receive further word from you indicating you have a continued EAD stamp/ card.

I think this sucks and frankly I've paid into EI for 17 yrs only to have them tell me they can barely help me....I get why they can't, but geez....can't I at least prove that i filed for it and am just waiting as usual for the US Gov?
