I’m starting to think I got scammed lol.
I paid 7000 for the I-751 filling + them coming to the interview with me.
I got my Notice in the 13th and filed on the 2nd.

You paid $7000 for the I-751?

Got my three letters in the mail today! 48 months extension, notice of reusing biometrics, and my access code. Potomac service center. Guess I might as well get the N-400 started…

Aside from them charging my debit card on the 11th, we haven’t heard anything regarding my husbands application 😴

We filed at the Illinois lockbox

Trying to be patient, but like I said before, he needs that extension letter to get a new drivers license!

Relax, nothing out of the ordinary here. According to your timeline you filed on May 8th, so it's only been just over a week. You'll probably get some mail around the 20th - 23rd.

Removal of conditions

05-02-23 I-751 sent via FedEx.

05-03-23 I-751 delivered to USCIS address in Tempe AZ.

05-09-23 Check for $680 cashed.

05-15-23 Received I-797 NOA (48-month extension). A separate letter saying biometrics to be re-used. A third letter giving online access code.

It’s a divorce waiver so they said it was more complicated/ I’m in Boston so pricy area. But yeah looks like I way overpaid.

Yikes. Filing ROC with a divorce isn't really more complicated honestly, unless you are lacking evidence of having a bona fide marriage. And an attorney won't be able to create evidence from the ether. What exactly did this attorney do for you for $7000??? And is your divorce finalized (i.e. do you have your divorce decree)?

Few pluses of having a lawyer in my opinion:

1. Helping with personal statement. It needs to be written well, factually correct, yet short and in a way it would strenghten the case.

2. Lawyer can be helpful in writing up a statement from ex spouse and getting them on board (e.g. getting signed etc) to strengthen the case.

3. If lawyer attends the interview, he or she can direct the interview in the right path, e.g. when inexperienced officer pulls in irrelevant questions etc.

4. Lawyer can prepare the client for the interview. Run mock interviews to practice questions and answers one would typically get.

5. Lawyer can help minimizing the chance of LPR being put in removal proceedings or help them getting out of deportation.

8. Lawyer can file WoM to get the decision on case. Not sure if that's included in $7K though, and it is a point to discuss before hiring somebody.

9. Lawyer's office can help as a permanent address for RFEs, action notices etc. Helpful if LPR moves frequently, to ensure nothing is lost or misdelivered.

Is it worth 7k? It depends on how you value the help above and relative piece of mind.

Sure there are a lot of things a lawyer can do, which is why I asked what this lawyer has done for $7k. I've worked in the legal field for ~7 years so certainly understand how lawyers can be and are helpful to people. However, we have seen far too many instances here of lawyers giving out incorrect information, being unresponsive (including not passing along updates/notices promptly), having typos or incorrect dates on forms, or just blatantly charging far too much money for people with relatively straight-forward cases. And many divorce waiver ROC filings are straight-forward.

(To be clear I'm not saying lawyers should never be used for immigration, but I think people should always do research first to see if they can DIY it, and if not, they still need to be vigilant/do their own research to make sure things are being done correctly).
