Got it. Just to be clear - is it better to provide just the two accounts that total the 100k USD as that meets the asset requirements?

Or am I expected to show every financial account with any funds in them? Would rather make things real simple instead of handing over like 10 sets of financial documents with some accounts having a few hundred in them.

I doubt it matters, I had a spreadsheet but they only glanced at it and did not need to look at my supporting documentation, but that was I 134.

I took everything just in case.

Good that you have the in laws backing you up, I would be worried otherwise.

Thanks.

One more thing I have noticed in the I-864A instructions is the following:

Item Numbers 3.a. - 3.d. Assets.
If you are the intending immigrant and have no accompanying dependents, then do not list your assets on this contract.
Instead, you must list your assets in Part 7., Item Numbers 6. - 10. of the Form I-864 and do not need to complete this
form

So does that mean that I shouldnt fill in the I-864A form at all? Since we are only going to be using myself (immigrant) and my spouse (sponsor) assets and we have no other dependants or applicants?

Embassies / NVC have been reported on VJ to override this guidance. I would have an I-864a ready.

Be aware that not all consulates/embassies follow the 125% of 3X/5X poverty guideline. My family of 3 showed 250K US cash and it wasn't enough. The CO asked for a joint sponsor. Since we didn't want to use a joint sponsor, we showed half a million dollars and that was ultimately accepted. They are really looking for steady, reliable petitioner US income. Hopefully your interview is at a consulate that accepts 100K.

You can have an I-864a ready to hand over, if needed.  All IV units follow the 125% "guidance" but JUST meeting the minimum is not the standard.  Show all the liquid assets you have and can document.  It's a judgment call.  Make it easy for them to say yes.

I have a follow-up question if thats okay? kinda freaking out as the interview is coming up.

I'm still proceeding with assets first but have a backup form with a joint sponsor if needed.

One thing I'm confused about is the documentation required for our joint sponsor.

For our joint-sponsor we have:

  1. We do not have a 2022 tax return as she filed for an extension this year
  2. 2021, 2020, 2019 IRS transcript from their site
  3. W-2

I have read several posts online talking about 6 months of wageslips. Is that an official number required because I can't see that listed anywhere in the requirements? How many months of wageslips need to be shown?

Another concern is that our joint sponsor files her taxes jointly with her spouse. He earns 0 income (retired) and we would only be relying on our joint sponsors income which more than meets the 125% requirement. Do we still need to fill in an i-864A because she lives with her husband? They are not a part of our household.

Is there any other documentation we need for her as a joint sponsor outside of the above?

Really hoping they accept our assets only filing. I will have a coversheet that's an excel table showing a breakdown of our assets and the surprlus we have above the 3x 125% minimum. Then following that we have our bank statements of all our assets. They are all currently held in cash but are in GBP, not USD. Hoping since we are interviewing in the UK that the asset currency won't be an issue.

Many thanks

The I-864 instructions list the things required from the joint sponsor.  One (most recent) pay stub is sufficient to evidence current income.  Get back to those instructions.

Thanks. Didn't even end up needing it today. Weirdly none of my documentation was taken regarding proof of assets either. I was given the 221g pending the medical results as they hadn't arrived yet but was given the A-OK otherwise despite them not reviewing my assets proof at all.

I wish I had asked if they needed to see the proof because I'm a little worried now, even though he said "everything's good".
