Questions about traveling on AP!?

Hi all -

I’m planning to fly to my home country in May and have so many questions. I’m beyond worried. I have no overstay and entered the country legally on F1 visa. Here are my questions —

  1. I got the combo card, do I need any other documents beyond this and the receipt notices?
  2. What is the process? I know I’m taken to secondary inspection BUT what do they stamp? Where is the I-512 stamp given?
  3. My F1 visa and previous EAD has the name FNU JOHN DOE, while as my I-94 has the name JOHN DOE and so does my combo card. Will this be problematic? Do you think they could deny me entry because of this?!
  4. In October, I was flying out of Germany back to the U.S and was detained (because of overstay by 2 hours due to a human error) BUT I was given a warning and let go and entered the U.S without issues - would this lead to problems ??!
  5. Any issues faced by home country’s air carrier not allowing you on the plane based on the AP? (Any experiences with Air India in the group??)

Thanks!!!!!

Passport valid for 6+ months with blank pages to ensure you transition through different countries (if needed) without a problem. Each country has their own requirements for passports.

Airline agents in countries overseas may give you trouble when you try boarding with it, for sure. Not everybody knows what FNU stands for, especially non-English speaking ones.

I have previously travelled with the F1 visa with FNU and had no issues. When I enter back to the U.S, I will have my full name as I changed it in my marriage certificate.

Also, I can't postpone the trip - it is an emergency.

I see no point of asking the question if you already have the answer? I'm not saying FNU will cause issues 100%, I'm just saying there is a possibility of somebody not knowing what to do with it.

If you need to go, you need to go.
