Two Consulate Interviews / Medical Denial [merged threads]

My fiance scheduled an interview and met with them at the consulate. She said they just asked extremely basic questions like "How long have you been together?" "What's your name?" "What's his name?" and things like that.

She said they told her they would get in touch and ask her to come back later for a second interview.

Is this normal? It was a month ago, and we haven't heard anything from them since.

No, this is not normal.  Did they keep her passport?

I've never heard about your situation in Manila, where visas seem to be handed out like candy.

Just in case, here's a paste from a post from 2010:

Here is a "fraud referral worksheet" that USCIS investigators use in Stokes interviews. One can assume that the consulates (Department of State, not DHS) use something similar. Some "red flags" are identified. Important: In instances of consulates that thrive on front-loaded USCIS petitions (Guayaquil, Ecuador is one), do NOT let this scare you away from front-loading.

Somewhere in the questioning they didn't like the answer or how she acted. Ask her did the CO have a certain subject that he was fixated on. This next interview they might call you and do a stokes interview so be prepared. Many a interview have been lost due to interviewee not doing well.

This is out of ordinary and is not standard practice.

Reading your old posts, not seeing each other for over 2 years might be an issue.

@MarJhi has not seen his fiancée for a long time… and they received the visa from Manila…

@mapo was this the first time you petitioned someone? Was it the first time your partner was petitioned?
I would ask her again about the questions… maybe you can understand why they requested a second interview and what they will focus on second time round…

ETA… I see you might have put the process in hold… I can see why they might want to have a second interview. Are you planning on seeing your partner before the second interview?

Well we still haven't heard anything from the Consulate about the second interview, but I'll let you all know what happens.

I wonder if getting an immigration lawyer in touch with them would speed the issue toward a resolution?

Have you emailed the consulate to ask about the status of the case? The visa might have been refused and sent back to USCIS  but your partner is too worried or embarrassed to tell you…

Hello everyone. We received some sad news today.

After persevering through three years and a pandemic she finally got a rejection letter.

She has a residual scar on her lung from Covid which they cited as the reason for a medical rejection.

They're saying it could be "TB activity." My understanding is that there's no way to get rid of lung scarring, even if the virus hasn't been active in years. When she called the consulate, they gave her the impression that this was a permanent condition which persists even after the virus clears out.

This is a devastating result for our family. She's dealing with a lot of guilt from being rejected, and she's blaming herself.

I would be interested if any of you have heard of anyone coming back from this kind of rejection. I am grateful for any support or information that you could provide.

For my part, I think I will emigrate to Philippines so that I can be with her.

What does the letter say?  Lung scarring, alone, is not an inadmissible condition.  Even active TB can be treated.  Is it a refusal or a denial??  Do not abandon hope at this point....

Thanks for your kind words.

The letter says PULMONARY TUBERCULOSIS UPPER LEFT LUNG ACTIVITY UNDETERMINED.

We are going to attempt to get a certification that her TB is gone and it's just a scar.

I will ask her if it was worded as a refusal or a denial.
