1 in 4 high school students identifies as LGBTQ

I am started to doubt that moving my 3 school age daughters from the Philippines to the U.S. is best for them.  Thoughts?

I doubt that these numbers hold up, but the 2015 to 2021 change indicates to me a few things.  Woke teachers in schools exposing children to ideas they don't need to be exposed to as a child.  Children exposed to social media and other media highlighting alternative lifestyles.  A mental health emergency.

About 1 in 4 high school students identifies as LGBTQ, according to a report the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released on Thursday, using data from 2021.

In 2021, 75.5 percent of high school students identified as heterosexual, the CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) found.

Among high school students, 12.2 percent identified as bisexual, 5.2 percent as questioning, 3.9 percent as other, 3.2 percent as gay or lesbian and 1.8 percent said they didn’t understand the question.

The CDC says the number of LGBTQ students went from 11 percent in 2015 to 26 percent in 2021.

I realise trans women get the love. But it seems 2/3rds are trans men, well boys as seems predominately girls. On the plus side there has been a significant reduction in eating disorders.

More concerning is that youngsters worldwide -and even adults- get life advice from tik tok and instagram and only dream of becoming a youtuber/tiktoker.

At some point there will no longer be any doctors or engineers, just "influencers".

This is really bad in the Philippines.  I suspect it is worse in poor countries.  An opportunity to make money that did not exist before.  TikTok and YouTube has thousands of young women posting sexy dance videos.

Not completely related, but your thought made me think back to this.  As to the topic at hand, this whole thing smacks as a social contagion particularly in the US.  Now of course it might not be, but if it is real, I guess the L's and G's will be going away soon.

Douglas Adams right again: Lack of phone sanitizers will doom planet

As you doubtlessly remember, somewhere in the Hitchhiker’s Guide series Mr. Adams told the story of the The Golgafrinchans, a race of people who sent their Telephone Sanitizer population away. The Sanitizers were sent along with another third of the planet’s population who were also deemed useless to form a colony on a remote planet (Earth as it happens). Of course, the remaining Golgafrinchan population was then wiped out by a virulent disease contracted via unsanitary telephones.

I have a connection with Douglas Adams, must be 20 years now since he passed.

Certainly the dream of becoming rich through it is a factor, but I think it is more about being desperate for attention and validation, even if it comes from perfect strangers.

For instance, I know a woman in her 40's, married, from Denmark who has tried to be an influencer for years, posts the most ridiculous content and has nine different accounts to like and comment her own posts. It is pathetic and painful to witness.

There is a serious identity crisis -that has spread worldwide and among people of all ages- and I think the whole phenomenon encompasses what I'm talking about and what you mentioned in your initial post.

I'd like to finish my post with a paragraph from "Doctor Glas" by Hjalmar Söderberg that I have always found so telling of human nature: "We want to be loved; failing that, admired; failing that, feared, failing that, hated and despised. At all costs we want to stir up some sort of feeling in others."

I actually know why he chose 42, well I am pretty sure. It had a certain association.

There was a list of teachers, numbers associated with particularly weird ones got a laugh.

42 forget his name was a particularly weird English teacher, always assumed that was where it came from.
