Education difference?

I could sort of see it as a question if it was the other way around, but even then do not see it is an issue for immigration.

But since when have men been that bothered about their SO's education achievements? In all my years I have never heard it mentioned once.

So I have been looking into guides here for the spouse visa and various people’s experiences, and I saw a couple of posts mention education differences being a red flag. Is this true?

For context regarding my concern: My boyfriend (31 USC) went to university and has a bachelor’s in IT and a career, whereas I (25 UK) never went to university and I have very little job experience. I went to high school and sixth form and got high grades, but university wasn’t an option for me due to health reasons.

This year I got my first job and things are looking much better for me health-wise, and we have talked about me maybe going to university when I move to the US, but now I’m concerned about what I read about educational differences being red flags.

it is for high fraud countries /  not a UK  issue

reason being some  in high fraud countries have not even finished high school and are looking for green card and meal ticket

and not true of all high fraud countries also as 24% of immigrants from one of them end  up with BS or higher degree

so,  its up to CO

allo law lists red flag issues and this is listed

Don't even worry!  I am the US petitioner.  I am an attorney with multiple college degrees and my husband has no college education and is in the hospitality field.  I am also 8 years older than him.  We were just approved at his interview on Wednesday.  As long as you can show the relationship is legitimate and genuine you should be fine.

i don't think its mentioned but looked at by a CO

never heard of it on a 221g but then they don't mention the age difference either but we all know the CO  takes that into decision making

i would like to see a list of things they consider/i  am sure there is one

I was talking generally, usually issues outside of societal norms draw attention.

Which begs an interesting question, I can not imagine a Male CO even contemplating this, it does not compute from a male perspective, would a Woman CO?

Not yet! He has to accumulate holiday time at his job sadly, so we’re waiting for him to have at least one week to come visit me in the UK to marry me. We’re looking at December or January, and when he returns to the US that’s when we’ll file for the visa :)

Just wanted to make sure that you are aware that most foreigners need a "Marriage Visitor Visa" to get married in the UK (even if they are a US citizen or otherwise eligible for visa waiver) and you have to give notice at least 30 days before you get married.  If your fiance is in the UK on visa waiver then he won't be able to give notice to get married and there is really no way to do quick weddings in the UK (less than 30 days).  There is more information here: https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa/y/usa/marriage

As an alternative, you could get married fairly quickly and easily in Canada, Gibraltar, or Denmark on tourist visas for both of you.  The other alternative if that you could do an online Utah wedding and then file your I-130 for a spouse visa after your fiance has had a chance to visit you.  If you do an online wedding, there is a requirement that you have met in person afterwards to consummate.

yes,  1st Adil was  interviewed by a Moroccan woman and when interviewed by a US male,  he was approved

additional visits,  yes

commingling ,  yes

but we had already spent months together before the 1st interview

and as for education,  he had a AS degree and i have MS (i don't remember a question on I 130 about my education)

This is presumably London and the issue raised was education levels, also trying to think how they would know for the USC.

Not as if they care about the beneficiaries earning potential.

OP is planning on marrying in January next year. She is aware of the marriage visa requirement.

@clericbeast you might want to clarify before you post concerns that you are aware of the bigger hurdles you face (marriage visa for UK, long waiting time for visa - 2 year wait).. As people will want to point them out as I did… and now another poster did tooo 🤣🤣🤣

I think you

l find that you’ve addressed all the real concerns and your mind is just finding something random to worry about.

Oh my god, thank you! I had no idea about giving notice, but I looked into it after reading your response a few hours ago and gahhh, everything is always so complicated! But thank you so much for bringing this to my attention.

I talked to my fiancé about it briefly as he’s currently working and we think we’re going to do the Utah wedding as it will work out cheaper for us than marrying in a third country. We’ll just have to do a proper wedding celebration with our families at a later time.

Haha, I realise that now, but in this case they really did point out an oversight on my part. Utah wedding it is lmao! 🤠

Hey I wanted to pop in and say you have absolutely nothing to worry about. I had a lot of issues with self harm as a teen so I'm also a little scared about the medical, but I found this thread super helpful in both easing my anxiety and helping me figure out what I'll need to take with me

Also just as an aside, as I also read the thread you made about misrep, anxiety is absolutely your worst enemy when it comes to this whole process. We got our NOA1 in Jan and since then it's like my brain pinpoints something else to worry about every month so I definitely understand where your worries are coming from. I know it's difficult but the best thing to focus on everything that can go right with your case and the very likely reality that everything will go smoothly. Funnily enough we're the same age and from the UK so if you ever need to DM someone in the same boat to bounce your worries off I'd be happy to lend an ear.

(Also off topic my apologies, but is your username a Bloodborne reference? That's awesome if so)

Omg hi! We have so many similarities! And yes, it is a Bloodborne reference hehe! This makes me happy 🥰

I would absolutely love to talk more with you if you’re down, and of course please do keep us updated on your journey and how everything goes. The thread you linked was very reassuring and I will be sure to go overboard with proof that I am healthy! Better safe than sorry with this!

Not worried.  Every situation is individual.  I am a college graduate and at 65 years old petitioned for my 25 year old high school boyfriend and it was approved and we got married in the U.S., no issues whatsoever.  Good luck.
