Interview notification - joint interview?

Filed ROC in July 21 and heard nothing until filing my N400 a few weeks back. Shortly after filing my N400 I received notice that my ROC case had been transfered and another notice for my N400 biometrics.

Today I have received my N400 notice for late May.

 - There is no mention that this is a joint interview. I can see that the letter states "You will be notified separately about any other cases you filed" but there is no change on my ROC case as of yet.

 - Are you typically notified if it the interview is a joint interview, or are you just told this upon arrival?

 - If I am not able to be given a joint interview, would my ROC interview be waived or would I need to attend another separate interview for this?

 - Is my wife (USC) needed at the N400 interview? I am thinking of taking her with me just encase a joint interview is held on the day we get there.

Thanks

It's normal

Your mileage may vary. There's no typical. Some know about combo from invitation, others learn on the day of interview.

Either is possible.

Good idea to have US citizen spouse with you. Some are allowed to stay for N-400, some asked to leave and wait outside. And if combo is happening, she'll be asked to participate.

Sorry for perhaps unsatisfactory answers, but the gist of it - you need to be prepared for everything as experiences reported on forum differ a lot.

Good luck!

You need to plan for all outcomes here is one thing that will happen for sure:

Your I751 must be adjudicated and approved BEFORE your N400 is approved. Having said that whether you get a combo interview or a combo interview without your spouse is anyone's  guess. Notification before the interview whether it will be a combo and whether to bring your spouse is anyone's guess also. Although some couples have been notified to bring their spouses and it will be a combo!

To perhaps ease your mind our case started out just as you mentioned yours did. I accompanied my spouse to her N400 interview as the I751 was still pending, we never got any mention before hand whether to bring your spouse or not, nor did we have any idea whether or not it was going to be a combo interview. Upon arriving at the Dallas USCIS local office I was not let into the building so my wife entered with ALL our evidences for both the I751 and the N400. The fact that we had planned for this very scenario was not a big deal for the wife.

Towards the end of her N400 interview, she causally made reference that her spouse was out in the car waiting if the IO needed to see him for the I751. The IO casually stated there was no need and she (my wife) had just went through a combo interview. The IO recommended approval on the form they give you and a few days later the I751 status changed to approved and the oath ceremony was scheduled. Best advise plan plan and plan again for any contingencies and you'll be fine!

I think we might be the exception, but we were notified 2 days prior to wife's N-400 interview that it would be a combo.  We had already prepared for a combo.  We were both required to be present, and we both answered questions for the I-751 part of the interview.  We sat together for that part.

Dallas Field Office Dec14, 2022

The N-400 status immediately, within the hour,  changed to "Oath will be scheduled".  A couple days later, the I-751 status changed to "Case Approved".

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..
