Hello,

my fiancé received his police certificate which we had to take a plane to go get and wait a month for - sadly they misspelled his surname. A while Letter wrong! Think “Drown” instead of Brown. Can we write a letter of explanation as our case is about to leave NVC? Any advice would be appreciated.

No, a letter of explanation won't cut it.  Get a police certificate with the correct name.  The consulate won't care that you have to take a plane ride to get it.  A police certificate is useless if the visa applicant's name is not on it.  "James Drown" is not the same person as "James Brown".

Thanks Chancy…even if this police certificate has his picture on it? And all three other names correct?

Maybe you'll get lucky?  You can wait to find out for sure at the visa interview, if you don't mind the risk of getting a 221(g) letter for a police certificate with the correct name.

Maybe. Urgh so annoying that they did this. It already involved so much gymnastics flying to ghana for this police certificate.
