So i finally had a chance to do my canadian taxes. I figured I would be getting a decent amount back since last year's tax i only worked three months and got almost a grand back and this year i worked a whole year... yeah i was wrong. I calculated my income tax and its a couple hundred! I am so mad! I was seriously expecting more than that! I fricken hate the government! They took so much money from me in 2005 only to give me a couple hundred back?!?! Greedy bastards...

Assuming the Canadian tax system works similarly to the US system, that just means you withheld the right amount. A big refund really means you gave the government an interest-free loan.. why would you want that?

A big refund isn't like it's free money. It just means at the end of the year you didn't pay as much or overpay when you were deducted on each pay cheque - so in a sense you are just getting back your own money.

Unless you have a lot of deductions that you were able to claim in previous years that you didn't get to claim this year.

I'm happy if I get a few hundred back - it really sucks when you have to pay and cough up that money at tax time.
