is it possible to schedule the cfo session before doing the visa interview? for example, if you just got DQ and awaiting medical/visa interview, is that too early to schedule it? i've seen some people say you can get the cfo stuff done before the visa is on hand, but nobody specified how you go about doing so.

There is a current CFO thread discussion.

Apparently there is a new digital CFO coming out May 1.

CFO also has an expiration date.

thanks, posted there too. as far as i can find online, there is no expiration date for cfo certificate. maybe that's not true anymore. mostly interested in getting it completed as soon as possible, before any visa interview or even medical is completed, to avoid any potential delays or issues with getting it. i don't want to have to rely on the Philippines government at the last minute.

Unless my fiance's counselor was mistaken & unless things have changed since 2021, the actual paper copy of the CFO Guidance & Counseling certificate has no expiration date on it. We were issued a temporary PDF certificate for our situation since we needed it for our trip before the paper copy could be delivered & that temporary certificate did have an expiration date for roughly a year after it was issued. As far as we were told by her counselor, the certificate is valid for only the country & the partner with whom the "counseling" session was completed for. A lot of that included a lot of background information on me as well as a lot of personal information specific to my situation (i.e., divorce decree, etc.)...so it makes sense that the issued certificate would only be valid for that specific partner.

As far as getting it taken care of before the VISA is issued...we did ours before we even applied for the K1 VISA as we were told we needed it for my fiancé to travel to meet me in Costa Rica back in 2021. With that in mind, I don't see why you can't start the process now. If it is still anything like our process, you will need to acquire a lot of documents on yourself that may take some time to get. Several of them needed to be apostatized which can take a few days to weeks to complete depending on your state. I also needed to request an FBI background check as part of the process. This also took some time to acquire.

Yes, it's possible.  But if you're applying for a K1 or immigrant visa, the CFO counselor would be pissed if you schedule your CFO session before getting your visa on hand.  They could cancel your scheduled session.  That almost happened to me, but I pleaded with the counselor to proceed with the session anyway.  We continued with the session, but I was not cleared.  I was granted my CFO certificate only after I finally submitted a scan of my immigrant visa.  So not much point in scheduling CFO ahead of visa issuance, unless you're in a great rush to travel.

As most have said.. It is best to wait until you have your Visa in hand.

I did the same thing you are asking about a couple years ago. I thought it would be faster to go ahead an get the CFO interview out of the way. Then just go back once she had her Visa. She was told that it was a waste of her time to be there without the Visa, so nothing was gained.

But, with covid and the changes in the actual CFO process most are done online now.

I think whether you could do it before you have the visa or not is entirely at the discretion of the counselor and therefor like many other things in the Philippines there is no consistency or clearly defined likely outcomes.  Allot of people can't get it done before they have a visa, but some people can.
