Oakland's Police Union Demands Mayor Sheng Thao Resign Immediately

 

The last time we checked in with Mayor Sheng Thao of Oakland, things were not going very well.  In mid-June a recall election was approved and then the very next day her home was raided by the FBI.

 

For several days, the mayor seemed to be MIA.  Then she gave a defiant press conference during which she said she'd done nothing wrong.  She even suggested the timing of the raid, a day after the recall was approved, was suspicious.

Apparently her lawyer and her spokesman weren't on board with those comments because they both quit.  It felt at the time as if Thao might give in to the pressure and resign but she held on.  Not much has happened over the past month except that there have been some indications that her partner, Andre Jones, is also part of the FBI investigation.

After a month of relative quiet, today the Oakland Police Union weighed in, demanding that Thao resign immediately or else.  [...]

What Does It Take to Get a Deranged, Threatening Person Off the Street in San Francisco?

 

San Francisco is a famously tolerant place but tolerance for anti-social behavior ought to have some limits.  If you want to live on the street, do drugs, steal to feed your habit and generally throw away your own life, that's tragic.  But if, in the midst of all that, you present a danger to other people around you, especially to children, shouldn't the city step in?

 

Put another way, how many times can a deranged woman harass and threaten mothers and their young children before that person gets taken off the street?  The answer in San Francisco appears to be that there are no limits.  [...]

NYC Emergency Response Times Keep Getting Worse

Well this could go anywhere but as it involves mega blue cities, Boulder is up there with Berkley, I thought I would post it here. I played in a competition in Denver recently and they had a Ladies Division and I was tempted... All of course in the support of inclusivity.

So the back story is SJS have a bloke on their team, nothing wrong with having a bloke on the team but this is ladies volleyball. I think 4 teams have so far refused to play them.
