Twitter criticized after labeling NPR as ‘state-affiliated media’

 

(NewsNation) — NPR president and CEO John Lansing fired back at Twitter on Wednesday morning after the social media platform put a label on the news organization’s profile calling it “state-affiliated media.”

 

NewsNation partner The Hill reports this designation is one Twitter uses for state news agencies such as Russia’s TASS and China’s Xinhua.

 

“NPR and our Member stations are supported by millions of listeners who depend on us for the independent, fact-based journalism we provide,” Lansing wrote in a statement. “NPR stands for freedom of speech and holding the powerful accountable. It is unacceptable for Twitter to label us this way. A vigorous, vibrant free press is essential to the health of our democracy.”

Bashing National Public Radio's leftward bias is a favorite pastime of conservatives, especially since it is funded by taxpayer money, but critics received a boost this week from an unlikely source.

Uri Berliner, a 25-year veteran of NPR who is now a senior business editor there, published a lengthy essay this week that was remarkable because it absolutely blasted his employer's approach to journalism.  It was such a complete takedown that I found myself marveling, "He wrote this while he still works there?"  [...]

I saw that on https://www.thefp.com/p/npr-editor-how-npr-lost-americas-trust - amazing that someone would tell it as it is. Wonder how long he'll last before they find him unsuitable for NPR and he moves to the FP or some other and more normal outlet.

Probably not very long, but there are quite a few options out there for Left biased journalists that have opened their eyes.

Earlier this week, The Free Press published a piece by Uri Berliner, a 25-year veteran of NPR, who said that the network had gone from liberal-leaning to straight-up activism, trying to damage Donald Trump's presidency and "find anything we could to harm him."

 

The first person NPR sent out to do damage control, ironically, was the same guy who wrote the piece explaining why NPR wouldn't be covering the Hunter Biden laptop story, which was just a "distraction."  Berliner admitted they ignored the story to help the Biden campaign.

Now NPR chief executive Katherine Maher has come out with a statement addressing the "hurtful" piece.  [...]
