Ok here at work we had this quiz challenge to see and make sure everyone knew what the heck we were doing was correct. The winners got lunch on the company and company recognition. There were 4 quizes, my team won 3 of them, with members of my team being top scores on all 4 quizes. team 2 won the last quiz, with all my team members as top scores on the quiz, it was announced yesterday that team TWO won the whole challenge. by 1/10th of a point. im still trying to figure out how this could be. i spoke to my supervisor and she said she was fighting it but cant any further bc team 2 won for "special reasons" and was given the win. Ok fine, but to find out also there was a raise given to the winning team as well has me HOT. And no one will discuss it with us or the "special reason" the other team won. We won 3 quizs with the top scores, and lost ONE quiz by 2 points, i dont see how anyone who can look at a spreadsheet could state "team 2 won" i just want to walk out. it was bad enough to hear team 2 bragging about their win admitting they knew we won but they were given the win bc in their words "they saw we are better", but it was even WORSE when we heard this morning the win also includes a raise.

ok im done venting :)

In my opinion, this really does bad things for our department, my team members are pissed, we dont even want to perform at work today. its insane

Sadly enough, I've worked for places that did similar things.

It seems silly to me that a company gives a raise based on a game. (Well, other than pro sports, that is...)

If they actually thought we wouldnt be upset about it then they are all retards. We worked hard to pass those quizzes while the other team cheated by looking up all the answers in their manuals and still managed to only win 1 quiz, thats puzzleing as well but cant put an answer on "duh". and raises shouldnt be based on this, and its evil to put teams against eachother like this, especially when they need to work together for the company

Hmm compared to the completely illogical way the Federal Government hands out bonuses, this seems pretty tame.

Vent away, but I wouldn't really consider quitting over it.

Im not going to quit over it, my kids need to eat :) but my team will no longer participate in these things, and i dont think that will look good to the big guys when they wonder why the only team against the other is the same team.

Raises should be based on individual standards and quality of work per person not as a group based on who can pass tests. Thats more or less how the state register works, everyone in my office is titled xyz some know more some know less but thru out the state if the title xyz gets a raise all will that fall under that title not sure im explainging well but more or less it adds up to no matter how good i do i wont get singled out to get a raise :crying:

And it's a raise, not just a bonus? Wow, how ridiculous!

We had a department outing of laser tag a couple months ago. Can you imagine if we had gotten raises based on our laser tag performance? :wacko:

Perhaps one of the scoring factors was "Willingness to look up information to verify rather than assuming old information is correct"?

Better start investigating what the 'special reason' is. So you can do the same to get yourself a raise too. I hate politics in the workplace.

Just a thought, maybe their team got the raise because they are not posting on VJ on company time? lol j/k I'm guilty too.
