Liberals....sheesh!

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Liberals....sheesh!

True that!!

Well, If I had decided to move to Mexico to be with my SO in HIS country, Then yes, learning Spanish would be of most importance. To work in Mexico, one must speak Spanish...... I was born and raised in USA..speaking the 'national language''. Whether official or not, it is what it is.

OK, what are people arguing here? That life isn't fair? Well, no shite. That America should be English speaking? What, like it has for, um, how long exactly? I'm picturing King Canute trying to keep back the waves. Countries with immigration are fluid. Diversity means you can choose a dozen different cuisines in your town and city. That you can celebrate Cinco de Mayo, St. Patrick's Day & Chinese New Year, all in your backyard if you want. That you have a broader understanding of the world. And, that, yes, certain areas may change. Personally, I find that exciting. I love Chinatown in Chicago; I like listening to the music coming from the shops when I go to the Hispanic areas in this city. Both are more interesting to me than the generic strip malls.

Immigration brings change, and trying to halt that just isn't going to work, no matter how hard you shut your eyes and hold your breath. Maybe in 200 years, the Latino president will be arguing that Spanish should be the official language and gnashing his teeth against the Mandarin signs everywhere. The world is fluid.

If it's fluid, then does that mean it's flushable?

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

Unfortunately, yes. But that's another topic, methinks.

true im not sure the wording Official will make much difference, i seriously doubt many would go get language training to work a min paid job like target but since this is basically a english speaking area, then let the others go get the training to learn to speak the english, if i was in Mexico im sure i would have to go learn the language to speak there...

If you lived in Mexico and you speak English you have the opportunity get better jobs and get paid more. Thats the way it goes there. Being Mexican American, I know because I lived there and also most of my family members that are from Mexico speak, read, and write english for that same reason. Better skills = more job opportunities. Knowing two languages is not bad, I mean in Europe people speak more than one language. Heck I think they are even teaching Urdu in schools in the UK. Its not just a spanish thing. There is just a demand of variety when there are lots of cultures present.

I went on a business trip to New York some time ago and guy we had to deal with was Chineese yet he was speaking to us in Hindi as if it was his first language!!!! I was impressed.
