Hi Everyone!

Has anyone experienced something similar?

Long story short: in November, during my green card interview in Amsterdam the consular officer told me that my visa was approved (she told this to me twice). After 8 hours or so, I got an email from the embassy asking to fill out DS-5535 ASAP. My Dutch passport is still with the consulate, and it has been already over 1 month that they are doing administrative processing. I sent them an e-mail asking for a status update, however, the reply was "we'll only contact you once the AP is over, and will not reply to further inquiries anymore".

Anyone with similar experience with the DS-5535 in Amsterdam?

Not in Amsterdam, but there's a whole thread from the Montreal Consulate here:

Sorry that you were handed the DS-5535.  The immi journey is challenging enough as it is without that piled on top.

Can be misleading, what the interviewer should have made clear was that bit was approved. She had approved her element, not the whole thing.

That is for extra security and background checks.   Were you or your parents born in a different country?   Have you travelled to Iran by chance?

Yes, I used to be a Russian national, and my parents still are. No travel to Iran etc in my life.

So it’s likely because you are Russian.  There is nothing you can do but wait.

Bound to take longer than a more normal case, you are just waiting.

Well, I went through administrative processing 6 or 7 times before for my F1/B1/B2 visas. Each and every time, the officer used to say in the end "we give you 221 g". Each time it took 4-5 weeks to get clearance. For the green card interview, she told me "your visa is approved", and l8 hours later I receive DS-5535🤯

As I explained she had approved her bit

Yup, prepare for the long haul.

Writ of mandamus is probably the best way to go, otherwise they sit on cases for years

Fantastic, turns out these agencies always tell you half of the truth.

Dude, no visa is approved “on the spot”.   That’s just not how that works.
