i-485 Part 8 Q15 -- no show for interview

Hello VisaJourney!

I was selected in the past DV lottery process and filling i-485 right now. I wonder if not showing up for the interview in the embassy counts as visa denial.

I was in US, and my F1 visa was about to expire, I filled the forms, and scheduled an appointment in the US embassy in my home country, but I could not make it.

It was December 2020, I got covid, and with the restrictions of the time, I would have spent more than a month out of school, so I did not go.

Does it count as visa denial?

Thank you!

What happens if you miss green card interview?

If you miss your scheduled interview without notifying USCIS, they will “administratively close” your case. Unless you contact USCIS to schedule a new interview within 1 year after USCIS closes your case, they will deny your application.

No

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

Hi Jeanne!

I meant missing the visa interview in the US embassy abroad. Does it count as a denial?

I do not plan to miss my GC interview ofc.

Can I reschedule my DV lottery interview?

If you are not able to attend the interview on the scheduled date, then you should have to reschedule the interview. To reschedule the interview, you must contact the US embassy or consulate.Feb 7, 2023

If u just plain "do not attend"   its as the former statement and this is for a green card so the embassy has to follow USCIS guidelines

If an individual requests an interview to be rescheduled or fails to appear for a scheduled interview, USCIS field offices are directed to implement immediately the procedures outlined in the “Field Guidance” section of this memorandum and either reschedule the interview or deny the related application or petition ..

I think I need to rephrase my question.

In December 2020 my F1 visa was about to expire and I filled the forms, and scheduled an appointment in the US embassy in my home country to renew my F1 visa (I am a graduate student).

Unfortunately, I could not make it to my scheduled appointment because I got covid and with all the quarantine requirements in my home country, I just could not afford to skip school for so long.

So, I did not attend that interview. Does it count as visa denial for the purposes of Q 15 in part 8 of form i-485?

Thank you.
