We finally submitted my wifes N400 online two weeks ago. Today they upated the 751 to approved and card being produced. I don't know if it was because of the N400 or just that it's been almost two years.

Could be either. A lot of the times, left hand doesn't know what the right hand does at USCIS.

No plans to file N-400? He could have naturalized by now if filed N-400 in 2024, year later after his I-751.

Honestly at the time he didn’t feel ready, we also wasn’t expecting it to take 2 years. I guess it felt like the safe choice.

I'm in the same boat as your hubby, don't feel ready for that step yet considering everything. I have resigned myself to not leaving the country in the forseeable future for fear of not getting back in. All I'm hoping now is that there is still someone left at USCIS who is actually working on the pile of RoC applications, and that they get through to the April 2023 filers before our 48 months extensions run out.

I know it’s been said before but just wanted to add my little 2 cents as well: my RoC was approved only because I applied for the N400. I don’t believe my case would have been touched otherwise. Applying for naturalization was something I decided to do thanks to visa journey which allowed me to see how everything was being processed. I applied August 2024 and now I’m already a citizen. Had the interview at the end of March (where both cases were approved) and the oath ceremony April 4th. I recommend going down this route if you can. Good luck everyone!

After our I-751 had been pending for 40 months, wife submitted her N-400.  Four months later, both the I-751 and N-400 were approved during a combo interview.  A few weeks later, wife took the citizenship oath. Had she not filed the N-400, we could still be waiting for the I-751.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

I honestly don't understand what's the issue with doing the N-400, the questions are easy, and basically that's it...what's the point of waiting 2 years for a 10 yr GC?

I wouldn't say the questions are easy. There's very broad questions such as "Have you ever..." etc.

Also, entire immigration history is closely inspected. There is a risk of losing GC as part of applying for N-400 in some cases.

Applying for citizenship should not be taken lightly.

How can you lose your GC when applying for N-400? Because if you'll lose it when applying for that you will also lose it when renewing it.

And what do you mean "Have you ever..." questions? They only ask about USA culture and it's more political, so I don't understand what you're saying.

Also, I know a person that has a few DWI's and once was in a car that ran away from police and he has already tried multiple times and ofc they don't accept it, but he never lost his GC...

Based on what I know, GC renewal is a less intrusive process. Based on multiple data points, some people with deportable offences successfully renewed their GCs.

However, when it comes to N-400 all of this will be thoroughly scrutinized.

Sometimes it comes as a surprise to applicant. E.g. "But they approved my GC when I adjusted my status" or "But they renewed my GC without issue".

N-400 is the biggest immigration benefit with more scrutiny built into it.
