We waited, and tried all that. It has been 7 months already. We kept calling USCIS to see if the card was returned but it was not. USPS investigated it and said it was their mistake because the temporary holiday postal workers mis-delivered it. The card actually arrived right before Christmas 2018, just not at our mailbox.
Even if we found the card now it wouldn't be valid because I had to go in for a re-do of the biometrics - so that card is outdated and invalid anyways.

Hi I know this is old but worth a shot. I'm in almost the exact same situation - temporary holiday postal worker put it in the wrong mailbox and I filed for I-90 under "never delivered". We were also told the same information that I need to file it under lost/stolen and pay the fee so I didn't get my stamp at my appointment. We've sent in a letter AND  fax to cancel the existing I-90 under the advice of the clerk at my stamp appointment. Also contacted my state senator for assistance which was almost no help. USCIS responded to them saying it will be processed under normal processing times.

Could you share what happened with your situation after? I made plans to go out of country for a wedding this summer and didn't think this lost green card fiasco would happen. I'm worried it won't be canceled fast enough for me to apply for another I-90 and get a stamp appointment. It's already been over a month since we sent in the cancellation request letter.

Hello, thanks for this info! I will definitely make a call tomorrow and see if they'll send me one too. Do you know when they implemented this with paper I-551? I had my stamp appointment in early Feb and was told I can't get stamped unless I filed under the correct reason (which I did not do).

I'm not active on this forum anymore but always happy to help!

I don't remember the exact dates and details but I remember the USPS was no help so there's no point trying to place or shift the blame on them. If the USPS tracking information says delivered then that's enough proof for them to say you did receive it. USCIS is quite strict on those little details and technicality so there's really no way around it other than applying for a new card through the USCIS website. I did have to file under lost/stolen and go through that entire process, including paying the $400++ fees and $80++ biometrics fee (USCIS website will list the fee there). I sent in the I-90 form for replacement card around October 2019 and I believe my card arrived around late April 2020. All this was happening around the height and uncertainty of COVID, lockdowns, etc, so I don't know if that had an impact on how quickly or slowly I got my replacement card. I had to make a new appointment for new photo/biometrics in order to get the new card issued. In my situation I ended up not being able to travel out of the country and had to cancel our flights and absorb the monetary loss there. By the time I got my new card the world was on lock down so I couldn't go anywhere or do anything anyway.

So all in all I was supposed to get my Green Card on December 2018, it was mis-delivered. After going through what seems like a lot of work, useless infopass appointments, phone calls, I finally got the replacement Green Card in April 2020. Moral of the story is do what you can to ensure the Green Card arrives to your doorstep - don't move home/address if you can, just stay put until you get this very important piece of document or you'll end up creating a lot of extra work, wasted money, and huge inconvenience for yourself. This is NOT one of those things where they'll say sorry and just issue another card in 6-10 days. I learned a lot from this situation and realize that if you lose any important documents like this it will take a long time to get a new one - so STAY ON TOP OF THESE THINGS best you can.

Good luck with your situation but also try to see the bright side... you are in the position where you finally got your Green Card. It took all of us in this forum a lot of time, money, sweat, and tears to reach this stage, so give your and your significant other a huge pat in the back for all that you've gone through.

Definitely an expensive lesson learned. I'm just curious about how long it took for your first I-90 (filed as never arrived) took to be canceled so you could file a second one? I don't care if I have to pay now, I just want my stamp so I make my travel plans in time. Also, did you send in a cancel request or did you wait for it to be rejected on its own?

I called them and they told me an agent will look over my case and see if they can mail me a stamp or if it requires an appointment. I'm sure you can guess, they booked an in person appointment for me. I'm pretty sure they will just tell me the same thing at the appointment as they did last time (which is no, cancel the application and reapply under the correct reason). I don't plan on going but I can't cancel my appointment as I don't have the required pin number to cancel it. What a great system.

I'm truly sorry.  :(

As if the immigration process was not stressful enough.

Here's a thread with detailed steps on what you can do to solve the issue:

Thank you. Unfortunately it is too late for us as it's past the claim date. I do have a letter from USPS saying "it was delivered' but not admitting fault, even though they said so over the phone... I showed it to my appointment last time and they said sorry, tracking says delivered so that's it.

OMG! That's so unacceptable!

Maybe try the Ombudsman.
