If visa was 'approved' at interview and i'm still waiting for it (+10 business days) is it possible it's under additional administrative processing without being told?

What's the status on the website?

Well, consular officer said approved and didn't hand over any 221(g) papers or anything and kept my passport. He said it'd take a week for the passport to come back to me.

The CEAC website hasn't moved since 2 days 'post' interview - "refused", which is AP, but i'm assuming thats general admin/processing...

Yes, it is AP.

Hope the status changes soon.

Is your area of expertise STEM related?

I guess not being issued with anything/being contacted as yet is a good thing and it could just be normal processing?

Well, if it isn't... I'm hoping it doesn't take a long time haha. It's only a two year visa >.<

I'm in Finance/Business Management (Degree + 8yrs experience)

It shouldn't take that long. Let's hope just a few days more.

Fortunately, your degree is not within the list that requires a more extensive and thorough background check.

Yeah, I hope so.

For all the reading i've done (and i'm no expert by a long shot), they often give you the AP paperwork like the different color pieces of paper at the interview.

I'm thinking seeing i didn't get anything, and he said approved it's just waiting...

I've had a few friends go through the E-3 process though and they have gotten their passports back in like 2-4 days. That's why I'm thinking something they're looking into... not sure what it could be. I just wish if there was something, they'd have reached out already so I could tell that what they need and get it sorted (Interview was 13th March, so 2 weeks now)

It could be anything.

For instance, have you traveled to certain countries that would subject you to more scrutiny?

Would that not have been looked at/questioned at interview?

But yeah a little...

I travelled around Europe (Croatia, Italy, France) whilst working in the UK and US (separate US work visa), and Christmas in Singapore in the last 12 months.

Those specific countries should not trigger more scrutiny, but they could be looking into it.

Other things that could cause delay are a common name, previous visa applications, overstays, etc.

Maybe it is just a normal delay.

Yeah, the only other work visa I've had is a current US one (valid for 5 years) but only spent like 2 months in the US last year on it.

No longer in that position, so no longer need/eligible that visa class, no overstays, i've been to the US a lot over the past 10 years for holidays but never more that 2-4 weeks at a time.

That may be the reason for the extra delay.   The embassy may be waiting for background checks from the DOJ (Department of Justice).

Oh, okay I guess that makes sense as it wouldn't require anything further from me for them to action that.

I'm guessing if its anything like police checks here in Australia they take upwards of 1-2 weeks to process...
