I have tax transcripts showing my income, but my question is: My company position was part of an acquisition by its primary company, and I still work for the same company, but I got 2 W2s, 1 with old  company name, and the 2nd with the new company name. The problem is that it cuts my income in half, even though my employer letter states I make more than enough to sponsor my wife.

Do I send in just the tax transcript, paystubs, employer verification stating I still work with the same company, 1040 without the w2s, or should I send in w2s from the old company and new w2 with the new company name?

How does that work?

You earned X dollars per year before and now your income from W-2 A + income from W-2 B = X/2 ?

Because it changes the name, so it says that old company I made this much, new company I made this much, so it could be easily mis-communicated that its two different companies. Even though my transcript shows I made well over the amount required. Easy way to understand is that 1 W2 shows for all the months leading up to the acquisition, 2nd W2 shows remaining months but under new company name. I didn't switch jobs though, and my old company just changed its after acquisition.

Sorry i don’t see an answer to my question. Let my try again:

The employment letter says you earn X dollars per year.

One W-2  says you earned A dollars in 2022

Another W-2  says you earned B dollars in 2022

Which is true:

1. A+B = X

2. A+B < X

3. A+B > X

?

I was able to get this question clarified through an attorney, who clarified that I should attach the W2s, and then also provide an explanation to avoid further confusion.

Use tax transcript. Nothing else. Period.

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

I know. IRS transcripts is the easiest path and less paperwork. So although he has IRS transcript, 1040 and W2, why waste paper yet he can just submit IRS transcript??

I was saying that in general you can use tax returns + W2 too. Your statement made it seem that it's the ONLY thing you should use, which is not correct. Some people don't have their transcripts available yet so they can upload their tax returns + W2 and be totally fine. Also, I disagree that transcripts are the easiest way to go about it. The IRS website is extremely glitchy and if you live abroad with your spouse, you might even have trouble creating an account to view your tax transcripts.

So yes, tax transcripts are great but so are your tax returns + W2.
