My husband is a smoker and whenever he would visit me in the US he always made sure he had more than enough cigarettes.. except in 2001 when he came for a SHORT 4 day visit..scheduled to fly back to Canada the morning of Sept 11th 2001...his 4 day visit turned into 13 days...because of limited flights and constant cancellations...anyway he ran out of cigarettes and "suffered through American cigarettes", until the last day when we found an international smoke shop that sold Canadian cigarettes for $10 a pack..he says he has all intentions of quitting before we move (hes tried 4 times in the 5 years weve been married and hasnt been able to yet)...so my question for all the smokers here.. did you take a U-Haul full of just Canadian cigarettes?...LOL , or have you made the switch to American cigarettes? if so, what brands did you find the closest to what you were used to....

Oh hell no. I live in VA now where cigarettes are super cheap! I smoke American Spirits and would bring back a carton with me each visit. Cartons here are like $25-$35 US. :D

Prior to smoking these I smoked Gauloises for a long time which are French and to most Canadians smell and taste like American cigarettes. Expensive but I liked them.

Am I going to get eggs thrown at me if I say that I smoke Cuban minis? Mind you, this isn't even regularly, but it's the only thing I like when I do.

Thanks for the link. Those really cheap "generic" and "value" cigarettes look kind of scary. I mean, how good could they be at $10-15 a carton? :P

I just quit smoking a couple of days ago, but I always preferred Canadian cigarettes. Player's Navy Cut, specifically.

Many stores here in the US can/will order Canadian cigs for you. These are usually limited to Player's and Export A, however. Most tobacco shops that I've encountered keep those brands in stock already.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

I smoke Marlboro Light 100's here. I like them. Smokes are about 35 dollars a carton here!!

I used to always smoke DuMarier Light in Canada- I switched to Canadian Classics when I was back home going through K3- they were cheaper that DuMaurier.

Good for you Reba!

I said I too would entertain quitting when I moved down here, and I've yet to do it. Gene doesn't smoke. I don't smoke anywhere but outside, having already been conditioned by living in Saskatchewan...haha

I switched to Marlboro Lights. I did smoke them when I visited here, and actually brought some back with me each visit before moving here, just because they're so cheap. I do LOVE Canadian cigarettes though. I've even dreamed about them  I know...I know....crazy eh?

I didn't know you could order them on-line. I also don't know where they are the cheapest in Canada, but maybe we should have a ciggy brigade and have people here bring some back and mail them to each other here! haha

Sooooooooooooooo if you get a U-Haul, let me know eh? hehe

I used to travel across the border when I lived in Canada and bring back cartons of Winstons at the time. I never liked Canadian ciggarettes. Now I only smoke when I drink beer so that's not much. When I do go back to Canada to visit and I am seeing my friends (not my parents) I'll just bring a few packs of Marlboro's back with me (since I don't like Winstons anymore).

Canadian ciggarettes are funny looking, I feel like I'm holding a 1/2 a smoke everytime they're so tiny...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

Reba, congrats! :) I quit once for 9 months but it was for monetary reasons. I really *should* quit before you know, signs show up that I'm a heavy smoker...

I switched to Canadian Classics when I was back home going through K3- they were cheaper that DuMaurier.

I did that too when I'd run out of the American Spirits I'd bring back on visits since I only brought back a carton at a time. At first the Canadian Classics were pretty bad but I got used to them. They were $2-$3 cheaper than other brands!

I miss the flavor of canadian cigs, hubby smokes camel ultra lights or marlboro ultra lights .I find myself chain smoking them way too light but i guess it may be easier to quit. My mom said the next time she sees me I better have quit, oops that will be next week, we have a big family reunion in Big River Sask, Think I'll bring 2 cartons under 30.00 a carton here.

Well even after I move over to hubby's I'll still have the luxury of stopping at the border and bringing smokes home whenever I like since I'll be keeping my canadian job LOL

When we started dating I smoked Peter Jackson Menthol (cause I'm cheap and so are they LOL), then switched to Cameo Menthol (cause at the border they were cheaper). If I ran out while I was there I would get Basic Menthols (cause they're cheap LOL) and actually pretty much the same as Cameo (except for the smell). When we went on our honeymoon I picked up Marlboro Menthol Lights (super cheap when flying off to mexico) and I actually liked them the same as Cameo. Now when I cross to go back home I pick up a carton of Marlboro's at the border (cheaper than Cameo) so it works out.

The bonus is when I'm smoking outside work no one ever tries to bum a smoke off of me. I think they can smell the 'american' down the block LOL
