Thank you everybody for your input! Phewww, that's going to be a tough decision. I wish we had special nicknames or special phrases or a special song or so... but I'm afraid we don't.

Well, I often call him my little "Apfelstrudel" (that's a German apple pie, don't ask me why I started calling him that, I really don't remember  ). But I'm not sure if I want to have "apple pie" engraved on any of our rings.

Tiksman, I really like the idea of having the ring engraved on the outside! Maybe we should consider that too (in case we decide on the simpe bands).

Our bands were made in Ireland. They are white gold with a rim of yellow gold on the outer edges. On the white gold center, there are celtic shields and septentine knotwork, which symbolize protection.

My band has his initials inside, and his has mine.

In my signature below you will see a phrase that he first said to me when we were still chatters. At that time he said it just as a friend to me, during a chat when I was telling him about an unpleasant physical confrontation between me and my ex. I call the phrase 'the magic words' - my wedding band has part of it - 'safe and warm' - engraved by his initials.

On the inside of his band are the words 'together always' which is taken like a progression of our relationship. We used to say, when we were planning visits, that soon we would be together. As we travelled our visa journey, we would say soon 'together - always'.

we don't have anything engraved just yet (I think that might be something we do later.

The rings are platinum (man that was expensive...but totally worth it) and we picked out the diamond for my engagement ring together...it's plain but gorgeous.

I did have some things engraved on a set of dog tags I got for The Yank (he's military) - we have a matching set. He may have to take his wedding band off sometimes, but the tags tend to stay put when he's deployed.

Man, i'd give up the rings, the house and the car if he'd stay home with me though instead of leaving!
