Hello everyone, I come to this forum alot to read the post. I just submitted me and my fiancee' I-129F. I have a concern after reading an earlier post.

From the very first day me and my fiancee started chatting (May 2005) we referred to each other as husband/wife. We met in person a became engaged in (June 2006), at which time we had our engagement ceremony. NO WEDDING. My divorce just began final June 18, 2007, but all the emails or chats conversations that I submitted with our petition ended in your loving husband/wife this is from 2005 up until the present. Do you think this will cause our petition to be denied?

Thanking you in advance for your assistance.

Just black them out with a black marker.

Its the evidence you have met thats more important.

Yes, whenever and whatever you submit in printed form should have those words blacked out. I would black them out and then photocopy so it can never be seen what was blacked out. Then stop doing that from this day forward. A favorite question is to ask the foreign fiance a question like, "Is your husband visiting now?" or "How many times has your wife been here to visit you?" It is very important that you correct the Consular officer and explain that your fiance(e) is or has...

This can become a real sticky subject. Don't get caught in the trap.

Now I re-read your post and it says you submitted these with the petition. Really bad idea. Anybody who notices will question it. What may save you is that they don't look for such evidence in a fiance petition, so they may even discard it. You can hope anyway.

One caution about altering documents submitted in the K-1. VJ guides provide sample cover letters. There's a passage in one sample letter which pertains:

"Copies of documents submitted are exact photocopies of unaltered documents. I understand that I may be required to submit original documents to an Immigration or Consular officer at a later date."

Once a document is changed, the petitioner can no longer declare this. I have no idea how many people make this declaration, but I did. I don't intend to black out any portion of my evidence. If an email is personal, e.g., requiring text blacked out, it won't be submitted. Something to consider.

That is generally good advice but the word "document" has a context. K1 petitioners do not need to prove bona fide ongoing relationship with the petition. Copies of correspondence should not have been sent with the petition at all.

Further, I used the exact photocopies statement too but it is not required anymore. For an I-130 that does ask for such proof, I would either use something besides correspondence or black out the personal stuff as the instructions indicate is ok and think of that portion as "copies of correspondence" rather than documents, then add to the statement (remember, it's not required anyway) that some highly personal information has been blacked out on copies of correspondence.

While the USCIS may not "seek" out this information, there has been previous discussion here that if you submit it, it will be read. It will be interesting to read the outcome of this. And not to belabor this point, but many VJ'ers will advocate that you can never submit too much evidence and that too much evidence will not harm you so bury them with everything you got. This is a prime example of where this in fact may NOT BE TRUE!

YMMV
