So, I've got my citizenship interview on April 10.  Hopefully the oath ceremony won't take long after that.  We know what to do for me - easy peasy, turn up at the Passport office and apply.  But Kid1 & Kid2 - they are minors and will be given derivative citizenship.  We will apply at the same time as me for their passports, but does the passport office take their greencards?  How does that work?  Can anyone offer their experiences?

If you have their  foreign passports  containing their original stamped immigration visa, their passports with an ADIT stamp, or I-94 with an ADIT, you can submit those instead of GCs

How does that work?

If their passport applications are approved, generally the passport agency will not return their GCs.

You better start looking for appointments as soon as you get the date for your oath.  Around Dallas, ALL acceptance centers are booked 4 weeks out.

Thanks for the info.  We've got a trip to Europe booked for the end of May and it was booked for months already, prior to my N-400 filing .  I had no idea until I looked that Houston was traveling at quite the clip for Citizenship applications.  I'm on the fence about rescheduling an oath ceremony or just pushing for expedited passports.  Guess that will come down to what is said when we call the passport office since they are booking into June already.

I don't want to push it if I can help it because Kid1 will be a Junior this upcoming school year and I don't want anything to stop them from applying to both US and Canadian schools and subsequent scholarships, some of which are only available to citizens.

We just went through a 5 month nightmare of getting Kid1's Canadian passport.  PTSD from being held hostage by government agencies is a real thing!

Supposedly, you can book an appointment at some passport centers if you are traveling within 2 weeks....but that takes action from either the National Passport office or a US Representative or Senator's office.

Hubs had to do it that way when he naturalized - he had a business trip he had to attend.  They did his passport in 3 days or something.

Anyone with imminent travel plans can book a same day appt with an actual passport office .. but only able to request the appt no more than 10 working days prior to travel. No congressional representative intervention needed. Appt for Travel because of life and death emergencies can be requested within 3 working days. Has to be at a facility that actually makes the passport .. not at an application agency

Good luck getting an appointment without special intervention.

Start communicating with your Congressman's office right now, so that you/they can pull the trigger very soon.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Hello mam521

I feel you, I went thru the same thing with one minor kid. I got very frustrated when I could not book any appointment online after trying with all USPS location even 50 miles from where we live.

The online appointment booking did not give me the option to schedule an appointment for 2 persons (my minor kid and me). This is my personal experience: I went to one USPS location to ask them if there is any possibility they can help. I was told to come back at a certain time window of a particular date of the week that they accept walk-in (for this location, it's Tuesday every week, from 10AM to 11AM). According to them, an application takes 15 minutes and there were only 2 staff in charge of passport application at the location I went (it also means they only accept 8 walk-in applications), so they advise me to come and get line ASAP because we would take 2 time slots. We did what I was told and submitted everything on 1/31 (still "In process" status). They did take my daughter (expired) green card, fyi.

Hope this helps and wish you the best of luck!

My wife got her passport same day at the Dallas Passport Agency without any problems in January. She simply called up, said she had travel within 14 days, and got an appointment. Took all of 5 minutes.

Not everyone is traveling within 14 days.   Some people would like to book using their passport number. Try finding an appointment at ANY post Office or Dallas County passport acceptance center.  Unless something changed within the last 20 days, all are booked 4 weeks out.
