Found out I'm preg a few weeks ago, only was able to visit the doc 1 time. Idk if I need to go sooner or wait until April 1st when my Husband's health insurance kick in?

I walked out of my job Feb 24th, lost of energy, boredom, more lost of energy and have no idea why... then like 2 weeks later I'm found and confirmed preg.

I'm not sure if I can also get on Tenncare? I'm in TN and I'm the USC. Not sure if that will make any concern for my Husband's immigration status.

This is not an immigration question.

Go sooner if you need to, your health and health of future child have higher priority than anything else. You're the USC, the public charge rule is primarily affecting somebody who's getting Green Card and if they use the programs.

Not an immigration issue. Apply for TennCare asap. They cover over 50% of pregnancies in TN. Get good care now. When you have cover available through his work, you can make the decision about switching or not. Hope things go well

My wife is now pregnant (3 months) and the doctor didn't want to schedule the first appointment until 8-10 weeks anyway for the first ultrasound so no reason not to wait until April 1.

That was my experience with my youngest two.

Call the doctor's office and get yourself set up for an appointment. They will make it to when they want to see you next. As the USC yo don't have to worry about Tenncare. Use it if you need it.

And Congratulations!

It will not.

Nah he had the job several months back. When I left my job on the 24th, my health insurance from my job ended on the 28th. Then I gave my Husband a copy of my notice that I left my work that they supplied for me so he could gave it to his HR and his HR opened up the enrollment so I'll be able to have health insurance on his plan. [Already on dental/vision on his plan, we was on my health insurance plan because it was better.]

& thanks all, I wasn't sure so I had to ask. :) & thx for moving it to the correct forum section.
I'll be on my way to go check out Tenncare! I had to ask because a lot of doc was telling me to get on it and go. & I also heard a lot of good things about it. It'll be our first child. I had no idea this pregnancy tired me out so much!

Not sure why your husband’s employer is making you wait until April 1, as loss of coverage is a qualifying life event. Meanwhile your old employer had 20 or more employers, you have 60 days from day you lost coverage from your job to enroll in COBRA.

No idea. Something about their policy and I have no idea. So I'm really having to wait. & found out I don't qualify for Tenncare and any of that because of being over the income limit. That's fine. But waiting for 3 more weeks...ugh.
But it's also no different that many jobs I worked at follow the same thing, they make you wait until the next whole month. Maybe it's just TN state idk.

Enrolling in COBRA cost wayyy more than going out of pocket. I'm not gonna go for that tbh.

Neither states nor employers can't overrule the federal HIPAA law.

https://www.dol.gov/sites/dolgov/files/ebsa/about-ebsa/our-activities/resource-center/faqs/hipaa-consumer.pdf

Quote

There are two types of special enrollment – upon loss of eligibility for other coverage and upon certain life events. Under the first, employees and dependents who decline coverage due to other health coverage and then lose eligibility or lose employer contributions have special enrollment rights. For instance, an employee turns down health benefits for herself and her family because the family already has coverage through her spouse's plan. Coverage under the spouse's plan ceases. That employee then can request enrollment in her own company's plan for herself and her dependents.

Sounds like the above applies to you.

Quote

For both types, the employee must request enrollment within 30 days of the loss of coverage or life event triggering the special enrollment.

Sounds like your husband did notify within 30 days of your loss of coverage or the QLE (job loss).

Quote

After I request special enrollment, how long will I wait for coverage?

[...]

For special enrollment due to marriage or loss of eligibility for other coverage, your new coverage will begin on the first day of the first month after the plan receives the enrollment request. If the plan receives the request on January 3, for example, coverage would begin on February 1.

So if he notified his employer before March 1, by law you must be covered on March 1. If he notified his employer between March 1 and the day you posted your OP (inclusive), by law you must be covered April 1. February 28, 2023 was a Tuesday. There was no February 29, 2023. March 1, 2023 was a Wednesday. Neither days were federal or Tennesse state holidays.

So the lessons learned here when quitting a job are:

  • review the HIPAA law before quitting
  • don’t quit with less than a week left in the month since life gets in the way of dealing with company bureaucracy
  • don’t quit before the 15th of the month unless your ex-employer will cover you through the end of month
  • time is of the essence: the working spouse's employer must be the notified the day the jobless spouse's coverage ends or when the job ends, whichever is more advantages given the quoted rule for length of wait for coverage.

I gave the proof of notice that I left my previous job before March 1st as my Husband forwarded the info on Feb 27th. I'm not remembering if I've selected such plan before that, but if I did, it probably ended up rolling over in March for them to process it anyway.

I generally don't care about when I should quit. I do it at my peace before I go off turning into a monster if you get it how mentally insane it'll be. If I can be left alone about it I'll be fine. Please.
