I am sure I did not get mine witnessed, is this a new thing?

I am thinking the lawyer has bad experiences with lack of notarization and is using a one size fits all.

we both use the site as Adil knows more about things like Moroc documents

i was flabgasted to learn birth certificates expire in 90 days

those questions i leave to him

It seems to be a thing in other countries too.

i would advise u 2 to marry in Moroc if your US gf  can come to Moroc to marry

there are so many more benefits over the K1 (incha allah-from Adil)

on top of the wedding celebration and beautiful dresses she will miss out on ,  the spouse visa has a more favorable chance to have a visa approval

Crazycat has a full discussion of why CR1 (spouse visa ) is best  and for Moroc this is especially the case for an approval

but i can add to that that USCIS is making the AOS process to get your green card $2820 instead of the old $1225

K1 to get all done after coming to US is the long and more expensive process

Thank you for all for all your help. We do plan on having a wedding celebration in Morocco in the near future. But my US gf was advised by her lawyer that the fastest way for me to get to the US was through the K-1 Visa 😕

Lawyer  may have issues with documents not notaried but if he is a decent immigration lawyer ,  he/she should know not needed

and if USCIS wants this done,  a RFE is issued (which BTW are not usually hard to answer)

you can't be married before coming on the K1 visa

and it takes as long as 2 years to get all the AOS done

so ,  u don't get to go home to Moroc for a long long time

don't marry in Moroc on a K1 / the visa will be denied as "too married for a fiancee visit

OMG this lawyer is really giving bad advise

K1 takes as long as CR1

it use to be fast but u r looking at 2 years to get to interview / same as CR1

OK near future can have many definitions but that sound contrary to a K1.

K1's are not the fastest.

Listen to Boiler

that poster knows the immigration business

BTW  the embassy will check the registry in Rabat to make sure u are not married before a K1 is issued and u can't marry before coming -not even just with an IMAM  as IMAM submits the signed document to Rabat

I did marry in Moroc so this i am familiar with the process (Jeanne)

Once the approval is made of the court the process is finalized with the imam. The signing of the marriage contract by the two partners is the final step and the imam submits the signed final certificate.

Submits the signed certified means sent to Rabat to register the marriage

So if my gf comes to Morocco, we get married here. You are telling me there is a faster way for me to go to the US?

I'm not sure why this lawyer told her that the fastest way to get to NC was through the K-1.

We did mention that we wanted to marry in Morocco, but this lawyer said it was going to take 2-3 years for me to get to the US. So that's why we went with the K-1 visa to marry legally in the US. She said it would be a faster process. 🙄

Strongly suggest you do some research on your options, I never know if the Lawyer in these situations has been misunderstood or is incompetent.

K1 use to take less than a year

Read thru the timelines here on ANY portal (hit the word portal above) and u will see 15 months to go thru 1st stage and then the long wait for embassy to say send packets for interviews

its is 2+ for an interview same as spouse visa

and then 2+ years to get green card and adviance parole to be able to travel

so, K1 + AOS u would be waiting 4+ years to return to Moroc for a marriage there

AND DONT MARRY THERE ON k1 VISA /please don't mess this up   Allah yessir

K-1 is slower than CR-1

Also you are working in the basis the K1 will be approved, we do not know the story.

yes,  mine was denied and we had to marry and go thru CR1

K1 can be approved if there are NO RED FLAG issues but the CR1 has a stronger chance
