Applying for I 130 for parents and brothers

Hello,

 

I have just started applying for my parents and brothers in Pakistan. I have a question in the application that says "At which U.S. Embassy or Consulate location will the beneficiary apply for an immigrant visa?"

 

My parents and brothers are not in the US. I live in Dallas, Texas. Do I need to put in Islamabad Pakistan here for the embassy? Also do I have to apply for immigrant visa adjustment of status from now or once the I 130 is approved?

You are completing a separate I-130 for each parent and a separate I-130 for each brother, correct?

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Adjustment is applicable for parents if they are in the US, an I 130 each is what you need.

I had read that once the I 130 is approved at that point I have to wait for the adjustment of status. I didn’t know if I needed to apply for that once I 130 is approved or it automatically happens with the application of I 130

They will get an immigrant visa, nothing to adjust.

Your parents are not in the US.  They will not adjust status.  They will receive an IR-5 visa, then a green card after they arrive in the US.

Same deal, eventually they will interview at the Consulate and enter on an immigrant visa.

You must be confusing applying for adjustment of status - which they won't need- with applying for a visa - which they will actually go through-.

 

You file the I-130 and once it is approved, they will go through the process of applying for the visa which will require them scheduling an appointment and being interviewed at the embassy.

Okay so they have to apply for visa once I-130 is approved? I kept reading about applying for I-485 too so I was confused. Do you have any idea about the timelines for parents and for brothers. I saw the timeline for parents and brothers for I-130 but it’s the visa timelines that’s a lot longer for brothers right? I don’t know where to check that.

2 years for Parents, maybe quicker.

 

Brothers 20 something years, you can follow the Visa Bulletin
