Social Security Number Name Change and SSA Can't Find Wife's Green Card in System

So update on this -- just going through the forums, I realized this process is more normal than I originally thought. It looks like a lot of people have to go through 2 or 3 step verification with USCIS/DHS to confirm their documents match so they can get an updated social security card. We are waiting on three weeks now, and they said it should take 1-4 weeks to get a response. I have been checking SAVE every day and I recently sent a message to my local congresswoman to see if her office can do anything. I have seen a few cases on this forum of people waiting longer than 4 weeks, so I really hope it doesn't come to that.

My wife is applying for jobs right now and has her green card but her social security card is in her maiden name, so hoping that doesn't interfere with the hiring process. Plus, also delayed on filing taxes since I'm waiting for the social security card update. Fun times!

Have the same problem with my name change (for now close to two months) and then DMV as well. Social security office is completely useless and claims there is nothing they can do so now I am stuck in this limbo where DMV won’t issue a license in my maiden name and waits for my married name social security card and SSA is waiting for DHS to “click a button”. Extremely frustrating 😡

Hi - After your wife received the status update of 'Returned to Agency,' did she get the new Social Security card shortly after?

Hi -- this was almost a year and a half ago, so the details are a bit fuzzy 😅 However, she did eventually get it right after. I want to say it was a week or two after.
