Hi everyone, our NOA2 approval is estimated to be any day now and we wanted to know if its possible to transfer our case to Mexico. We are living in Mexico City currently (I'm American, my fiancee is Russian). We aren't residents, but wanted to know the chances of getting the case transferred from the default location of Warsaw, Poland for Russian Citizens and what should we say the reasoning for the transfer request. (I was going to initially say the cost of flights, obtaining a Schengen visa, and travel time versus just going into our local Mexican US Embassy location).

Thank you

Contact CDJ and ask

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I don't know if it's possible, but you tell them the truth for the reason for requesting transfer.

We are American/Russian and live in Mexico as well, currently living in San Miguel de Allende, GTO.  we originally selected Mexico as preferred embassy location on the I-129F.

AFAIK, temporary or permanent legal residency in Mexico is required in order for the Embassy to accept the interview.  Even then it is still at their pleasure to accept or deny.

This may have changed, there may be some flexibility as its difficult for Russians to get Schengen visas and into Poland currently.  I have had a conversation with my senator's immigration aid who is assisting us with our visa regarding this.  Its a problem and I'm not sure State Dept has a blanket solution for where Russian applicants can go.  I know of one of my fiancee's friends in Moscow that recently, and quite quickly too, obtained a B-2 tourist visa by going through the embassy in Tashkent Uzbekistan.  Also, I read that some applications are getting shuttled to the Almity Kazakhstan embassy.

Even with residency, we worry that the State Department will still send to Poland...   We are according to VJ, the only Russian K1 application ever entered here with a Mexico requested embassy.

Oh wow. That is good to know. We'll still ask Mexico City offie is a transfer is possible. My fiancee is a resident of Turkey as well, so we'll most likely end up requesting a transfer to Ankara after our K1 visa approval as Plan B, and then the Kazakhstan route Plan C, and worse case scenario figure out a way to get to to Poland. I appreciate the information and I wish you the best of luck on getting accepted in Mexico City!
