It doesn't "expire" per se but the issue date becomes old after 6 months so whenever you are to present documents for any reason, you have to go and request them with a newer issue date stamped on them.  It's ridiculous - I don't see any logic in that because my birth certificate has an issue date of 2017 on it and it's perfectly fine to use in the US.  The other oddity with documents in Colombia is that whenever there's a change in your marital status (i.e., you get married or divorced), they hand write that information on your birth certificate (either in the notes section or on the back).  So that's another reason for requesting a new birth certificate - we had to have our marriage notated on my husband's birth certificate in order for it to be valid for NVC and the interview at the consulate in Colombia.

Yeah I can understand your frustration. Annoying! Good news is that we are toward the end of the process!

Absolutely!  At this point I would walk to Colombia to get whatever we need to get to the end of this process 😂

Thanks this will help a lot in preparing!

One more question, for the beneficiary documents did you use the same one's that you submitted for I-130 or did you get new one's?

Thanks for your input.

Hi there,

Don't forget to fill out and submit form I-864 AOS

Hi All,

I am joining this group.

Got RFE and I resubmitted birth certificate and AOS on March 3rd.

Hoping to get DQ in two weeks. 🙃

If you don’t mind me asking, why did you get an RFE

It will take 1-3 days for your status to change “CASE WAS SENT TO THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE” then 1-3 days to get your email from NVC

Is that specific to spousal applicants? We're applying for an employment based green card and NVC timelines show approx 3 weeks for case creation/welcome letter once it's been sent to NVC. Ours was sent on 23rd Feb, so I was expecting the email sometime next week, but your info seems to say we should have it already? Thanks.

Hi there,

The exact message I got below. I resubmitted two birth certificates (the digital form and original written copy)

Part of this document is missing or is difficult to read. Please replace this with a scan that shows the complete text of the document. Please ensure all sides of every page are scanned and visible. Please visit https://nvc.state.gov/scan for further guidance.

Hope this help.

Thanks,

Stefania

I got my case created two days after it was approved. I am applying for parents.

wow, that's super quick. Ours was approved on 18th Feb, sent to NVC 23rd Feb so going on their published times we should get the welcome email next week if all is ok, but maybe it'll be sooner if others are hearing back in just a couple of days.

Good luck with your parents app.

Oh that's a good question. Yes, this timeline is for spouses of US Citizen. Now sure about other visa types. :(
