We drove over 5 hours to a commissionaires office to do the "digital fingerprinting" for my husband's police records. We were told that if we have not heard anything in 3-4 weeks then to e-mail the RCMP. Well..it's time to send in the DS-230 and still no results. I emailed the RCMP last week, no respnse. I called the RCMP and just she returned my call saying to expect 120 days. WHAT WAS THE PURPOSE OF DOING DIGITAL FINGERPRINTS!! It was a lot more expensive and a heck of a long drive for the same wait time. I'm so upset. I CANNOT believe we won't be able to finish our NVC paperwork for another 120 days. My heart is broken.

IMO 4 months is the minimum time its gonna take you to get your interview date if your embassy is Montreal so just send your checklist back now and wait for both. You should get your RCMP paper before.

I have to send in the police records before they complete my case and send it to Montreal, right?! Maybe the CR1 process is different?

I don't think so - or is the CR1 that different from DCF? In our case, we just sent in the checklist and then went to get the RCMP stuff. Mind you, I did not need fingerprints since I have no criminal record (boring life, that of academics LOL). you will have your paperwork in time, I'm sure.

Good luck, L.

OK so when you sent in your checklist (i'm not exactly sure what this is) with what form did you send in the RCMP stuff?? I need to send in the DS-230 and it's one of the required documents.

Unfortunately, getting the fingerprints-included records check has always taken months to process and receive back. If your spouse does not have a criminal record, then the fingerprints check is NOT necessary, only a Canada-wide name check is required.

Hopefully someone who has gone through the CR-1/IR-1 process will pipe in and let you know whether or not you have to wait to submit the police check to complete your case.

Best wishes to you. :)

Edited to included the big bolded NOT! My apologies!

Thank you for responding. I wonder why they told us 3-4 weeks with digital fingerprinting. We drove SOOOOOO far for to do this, I guess don't believe every thing you read and hear for that matter. I just now called the commissionaires and they too said, 3-4 weeks. I was thinking out of pure desperation I heard weeks instead of months when I talked to them, but I didn't. Anyway, the girl is supposed to e-mail them over in Ottawa and call me back.

The checklist is part of "packet 3", which includes the forms. This 'checklist' indicates all the documents you need to gather. You do not need to submit the police certificate when you send in the checklist, but have to bring it with you to the interview.

Hope this helps. and also my dear friend, :time:, it helps us all.

Peace, L.

I humbly announce my crucial error in my initial post.

To the OP: not to be nosy about circumstances, but do you need the fingerprint check?

This is for my husband, and unfortunately yes he needed fingerprints. He used to be a little wild in his hockey days, until he met me that is. :o)

I know that I am not going through Montreal for my IR1/CR1 case, but recently the NVC has made changes to visa processing. I went to this site:http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3176.html -- if you do a search for the Montreal location, it will tell you all the documents the NVC requires to complete the case. I am sure you also got this in the letter they sent you. I had to send my husband's police certificate along with other original documents to the NVC before they completed our case for our interview to scheduled (which we are still waiting to have scheduled). They seem to require this for Montreal as well.

I hope you get the documents you need soon, so that they can complete the case. Good luck

OK here is another question. In Canada..after a certain amount of time is the record cleared? His mishaps happened in 1999.

I think you need to apply for a "pardon", but not sure. It will likely show on his record otherwise. but not to worry if it was something minor. I know somewhere on VJ there are the things that make you criminally inadmissible... just don't know where the .... are they.
