My mom got approved for her immigration visa. I’m looking to buy her ticket and if i’m not mistaken i need to buy a round trip because US border control has the ultimate say so when she arrives right? Or can i just buy a one way?

One way is fine.  Sometimes a round trip is cheaper than a one way so look for both.

Approved doesn’t mean “passport with visa is in hand”. Book nothing that is not fully refundable until passport with visa is in hand unless you can afford to eat the ticket or the change fees.
