Hi,

We submitted our K1 application on 1st June 2022, we received a letter stating how they’ll proceed with the case. Haven’t heard anything since then. I am really worried, as it’s been 8 months since the letter arrived. I don’t have an NVC number to check the status of the visa.. when should we expect USCIS to send our application to the NVC

Sadly for some, K-1s are taking longer than spousal visa petitions.

It sure is. I know a couple who been waiting for a while now for K1. Then I know another couple ( Spousal ) who is waiting forever for the Embassy to give them a date for a interview.

Maybe this question might pull out of this thread. But my question is in regards of  K1 and Spousal. When doing a K1 visa, do the petitioner and the  beneficiary choose their own date per say.

an during the spousal visa, they have to wait to be called, and if that all true.. Does the Embassy chose's an different queue for each visa.. in other words different date for each visa.. or is it all just the same

first come first serve. My point is that there is still a wait for just a date at the embassy @Crazy Cat.

Generally, for a K-1, the applicant chooses the interview date (1st come 1st serve) from available slots after NVC has assigned a DOS case number.  Finding an available slot is sometimes challenging.  For spousal visa cases, the interview scheduling process works like this:

1. Case is DQ'd by NVC.

2. Case then enters NVC queue for your consulate and waits at NVC.

3. Consulate informs NVC of available interview date for upcoming month.

4. NVC schedules interview when case reaches the front of the queue for that consulate.

5. NVC notifies person of interview date via email.

6. NVC then sends case to consulate.

After the interview is scheduled, it can take several days to several weeks for the consulate to receive the case.

How long does it take for the NVC to assign a case number from the time of submission of documents?

Online it says 4-6 weeks, but we haven’t received any update from NVC

USCIS has not approved your petition yet. Until that happens, you case will be with USCIS.

NVC won't even receive your case until late this year.... after USCIS approval.

Wow, that’s a long time. 9 months and not approved, is that normal?

Yes.  As Crazycat already stated, the current processing time average is 450+ days.  That is about 15 months.

Yes. 15 months for USCIS approval. If you came to VJ before you filed, we would have all advised you to apply for spousal visa instead

15 months from submission of I-129f to USCIS approval is the average.  See my first comment above.

But doesn’t spousal visa mean you’re apart from your spouse for 3 years? That’s the reason why we took the K1 route.

K1 take about the same time as spousal now. Hence why I said we advise to file for spousal visa since K1 has long lost its speed advantage.
