Cuban Travel for K1 Beneficiary

This might be a silly question but I couldn't find a good answer anywhere. My fiance (Colombian) has been invited to speak at a professional conference in Cuba towards the end of the year. It will actually (hopefully?) be very close to our K-1 approval time. Is there any issue with Cuban travel for the beneficiary, will that create any drama/issues for us?

1. Before or after he enters the USA on a K-1 visa?

2. If before, coming from Cuba to USA?

absolutely before entering... likely before the interview would even have happened. I guess I just mean is previous Cuban travel an issue? He would only be there for a conference and then would fly back to Colombia.

I know lots of people who have been to Cuba, a friend used to travel there on business, not sure if it is now but quite a popular travel destination, now it can be a bit more complicated for USCs and LPRs.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

It won’t be a problem for the K-1.  In the event the K-1 thing doesn’t work out and he attains citizenship in a visa waiver country, ESTA is gone forever.  Note that Ibero Americans have a fast path to residency and thus  citizenship of Spain.
