When submitting evidence I read where a previous poster copied the front and back of their green card is this necessary there doesn’t appear to be anything on the backside? or is this a requirement.

All documents submitted as evidence need to have both sides copied, if blank, just make a note on the copy "[form] reverse side"

I don't believe that's a hard and fast rule. We certainly didn't follow it, and we were approved. I think the Green Card was the ONLY document we copied both sides of in our entire evidence package.

I don't know why they want the copy of both sides of the Green Card, and I don't know if they could do without it. But they explicitly ask for a copy of both sides of the GC, so the least risky thing to do is to follow their explicit instructions. The back doesn't seem to have much of anything that the copier could pick up (there's a hologram there, but the copier can't read it).
