Messed up DS-156 Ahhh! what do I do?!!!

I was filling out the two copies of the DS-156 from packet 3 when it suddenly dawned on me I'd signed both of them and addressed them etc at the bottom...when it says NOT to.... I was pretty tired at the time and just kept going. Now I'm afraid these won't be accepted..... my dad says just to cross my signiture out but its gonna be a big worry on my mind. I can see from the download section I can download the same forms they sent but will they accept those?

Plus (I've tried asking in the embassy section) the whole packet (instructions, covering letters and all forms...) are stapled together. It came like that. If I want to use downloaded versions of the forms I just messed up I'd have to rip out the messed up ones....if I've not to unstaple them from this packet. Also I need to rip out the I-134 because its stuck in there too and I'm awaiting my fiance and our co-sponcer to send us downloaded versions of this form I sent them the other day..... So I don't know what to do.

Can I download the DS-156 fill them in right this time, rip out the messed copies from the stapled packet 3 and just like include the newly filled out ones when I send em back? Plus rip out the I-134 and add the new copies from my fiance and co-sponcer in the envelope when sending back?

I want to take these staples out but then again am I even suppost to? and will they even accept them in? Or out with holes in em ? that THEY did?

Fiona :help:

I would like to preface this post by saying that I am no expert but this would be my advice....

As long as the forms are exactly the same I would think you could print it out and fill it out correctly. As long as you get everything back to them that they ask for I would think you are all set. If the form online is not identical, then you could always white-out what you did on the original and photocopy it for a fresh sheet.

I believe some people go online and print and fill out all the forms prior to recieving their packet 3, just to be ahead of the game. Maybe someone more knowledgable then I will respond and confirm or deny this, but my advice is to make sure you have all the forms they ask for filled out one way or another and don't worry if this messes up the way they sent you the papers. Good Luck!

Don't worry about unstapling them. Like j&js said, lots of people download the forms and never use the ones London sends. Just be sure you send back the right forms (DS156, DS156K, DS230 and the checklist). You'll have to tear out the I-134 anyways because that goes with you to the interview and isn't mail into London.

You got a DS-156? My Val never got this form in packet 3. She received the DS-230 part 1 only - not part 2 and of course she received the DS-2001.

I agree with J&Js, it should be OK to download the form and should be exactly the same but again, I no expert, just from what my gut/experience only.

The downloadable forms here on Vj are all up to date . I checked them when I did my packet 3. Remember to do your DS156K online at the Consulates website as they want it barcoded.

Good Luck

TY all for your great advice. Rebecca and I are in the chat right now and she as well as all you guys have cleared my mind. She advised I come back here and ask about form DS-157....it says in our packet step one it is required of all male k-visa applicants 16 years and over.... I am not male...so I don't send this back right?

Adele - does Fiona need form DS-157 or is that for guys only?

Oops....lol....see Fiona is a big girl and can take care of herself.......

Anyway I am not sure London prefers the barcode form. There was a member here last summer that used it and got a scolding at window ...albeit they were still approved.

I don't think it matters if it's barcoded or not. Just as long as it's filled out properly.

I also did the same thing and signed the DS-156 but i didn't realise until i had already sent it. I emailed the embassy and they told me that there was no requirement that i send in an unsigned version, so i left it as it was. My forms were processed in 26 days so i don't think it held me up that much. I called the overly expensive line to talk to a person about it, just to be sure and the said the embassy will just get me to cross out the date i put on the form and correct it with the date of my interview. Hope this helps.

At the worst they will ask you to sign again in front of them.

I used downloaded forms.

I know the form muck up thing.

I sent Dan the affidavit of support form in a sealed brown envelope. I'd made him photocopies of everything to do first and said only do the proper one when you're totally sure.

Anyway he rings me and tells me he's gone and lost the envelope. Yes he LOST the form!!

Needless to say I told him if I would have been in the same room as him he might not have been able to father children in the future!

I rang the helpline and they said I could just download a copy so we've done that. I wouldn't stress too much. It'll all be fine!

The DS156 is available online, and that version (barcoded) is from what i've heard, accepted at the UK embassy. Never heard anything about the 156K being barcoded? I downloaded a generic one and filled it out, Ollie mailed it in w/packet 3 last week. Hope that works out... he didn't mention anything about the instructions saying to do it online..., but details are not his thing.

Also... from what I have read, it seems like the UK embassy corrects small errors with you at the interview, rather than sending stuff back and delaying everything.
