London to JFK one way ticket

Hi All

So i know im looking way into the future (6 months or less hopefully!) but i cant find any company that sells direct one way tickets London-JFK any cheaper than the standard return price!?

Well, Air India is the only one i have found even after many searches, but i expected all the major airlines to do reduced rate direct single fares. I thought i was a bit of an expert at getting cheap tickets by now with all the flights i have taken to USA, but this one has stumped me!

Im almost tempted to just pay £400 odd and fly business class direct on Maxjet...sounds fun, allbeit a tad expensive compared to what i was hoping to pay for a single (£200-300 tops)

Any experience/advice/help/pointers would be greatly appreciated!

I've been looking for that route too, and as yet I haven't found any direct flights that are cheaper one way, but there are several good one way deals if you are prepared to a change - so far i've seen Air Italia via Milan, Air Suisse via Zurich and whatever the Irish airline is that goes via Shannon or Dublin too - but i'd been keen to know too if anyone has found a good one way direct option.

I weent to Zoom Airlines, the no-friller to check.

The lowest fare (without added tax/surcharge) I got was LB 158; but it adds LB 107 for the LGW->JFK (more than the fare that way!) and LB 47 for the JFK->LGW, for a total fork-out of LB 312. Serious baggage restriction of 20 kg (44 lb) TOTAL, 2 pieces

For "Premium Economy" seating, the fare was LB 218 with total forkout of LB 412. Still restricted baggage of 30 kg total, 2 pieces.

Of course, as Zoom is no frills...

The thing is i cant do anything other than a direct flight because i need to be able to get the EAD at JFK

Otherwise i would fly aer lingus and just connect in dublin...thats always dirt cheap!

If you willing to fly from Liverpool

Try flyglobespan.com they do singles and they are cheap. They fly direct to JFK. Sometimes via Knock (Ireland West in Ireland) but POE is in JFK.

I would fly via Maxjet.

They let you take unlimited extra suitcases at £30 each, and they didn't end up charging me ANYTHING!!

Ooh, spooky - shortly after I posted the above saying i'm searching for flights I got a BA marketing newsletter telling me their sale ends tonight! ha ha maybe they're monitoring the board! They have return flights london to NY for £209 which seems a bargain but its too soon yet for me to book a flight and you have to book by midnight to get that price.

Have you tried STA Travel? They usually do one-way fares at half the price of round trip - you have to be 32 or under or a student to qualify. Not sure that applies!

I was able to find an inclusive total fare of LB 278 return LHR/JFK on BA (a good LB 34 less than Zoom) for (arbitrarily picked dates) departure end-of-August, return mid-September.

The only one-way I ever found that was cheaper than a round trip was with Air India... but looks like you've found that one already!

I'm flying back to the UK this weekend from CVG on Delta but it involves a plane change at JFK flying directly into Manchester. The flight was reasonable I think for me and the boy the total was $1600 including taxes and fees trough Ultimatefares.com Which equates to about 700gbp you can always pay $50 to change the return flight (extend it) untill you are ready to go home for a visit or just not use the return portion at all (i've done that).

I've just stumbled across a direct flight from Heathrow to JFK for £261 with Kuwait Airways, I'm not sure how often they fly though.

Just to be really picky though, "LB" is a measure of weight and cannot be used to mean Pounds Sterling.

For future use CherryXS, please cut and paste here: £££££££££££££££££££££££££

PS I typed those on an American Mac Keyboard (Option-3).

If you are using an American keyboard, hold down the Alt key and press 156, voila!!!
