I’m finally scheduled for my combo interview in 4 weeks. Had to reschedule to appointment I had in December and recently got a new appointment. I only received an email in December saying that it will be a combined interview but it didn’t mention what I should take with me. This is the only information that I got in the N-400 letter regarding my appointment:

This letter.

Your Alien Registration Card ("green card").
Your passport and/or any other documents you used in connection with any entries into the United States.

If applying for NATURALIZATION AS THE SPOUSE of a United States Citizen;
Your marriage certificate.

My interview will be in Dallas, TX. If anyone knows how long after approval I will do the oath ceremony that will be appreciated since I’m trying to plan for an upcoming trip.

Married: 01/26/2019

I130 NOA1 (PD): 02/20/2019 (Nebraska)

K3 NOA1 (PD): 05/29/2019

I-130 NOA2: 07/18/2019

- Take your US citizen spouse

- Take your passport

- Take spouse's US passport, and document proving source of US citizenship (Birth Certificate or Naturalization Certificate)

- All relevant bonafide marriage evidence (bills, bank statements, tax transcripts, plane tickets, health / car insurance listing both names etc.)

- Proof of your selective service registration (if you're a male who was LPR before turning 26).

We had a combo interview in Dec  at the Dallas Field Office:

We received an email a few days prior notifying me to be there for the combo interview. Appointment was at 1:00 pm Wednesday, December 14th.  We were called in at 1:30 pm.  Officer said, "You have already submitted a lot of evidence".  The officer asked both of us a few questions for the I-751 interview.  "How did you meet"   How many children?  When were you married? Did you pay anyone to fill in the I-751? He wanted to see evidence of marriage dated from I-751 filing date (March 2019) to present.  I gave him bank accounts, credit card accounts, apartment leases, driver's licenses, Car insurance card. He did NOT ask for tax transcripts (I had already uploaded them) or original documents.  He said "You satisfy the I-751 requirements".  He then gave me the option of remaining in the room for the N-400 portion, but wife was comfortable alone.  He escorted me back to the waiting room.  Wife says he asked her a few questions we had answered in the I-751 interview portion, then asked her the 6 easiest questions in the 100 question list.

Who is President?

What did MLK do?

Why did colonists come to America?

Name one branch of Government?

Name 2 cabinet positions?

Who makes laws?

About 30 minutes later, he escorted her out to meet me.  She had the form which says "You passed the English and Civics test".

An hour later, her N-400 status had changed to "Oath will be scheduled".  The next day (I think), her I-751 status changed to "Case was approved".

What amazed me was the rate the officers were calling interviewees in that afternoon.  They had 10 or 12 officers continually calling people out of the waiting room.  We were called 30 minutes after our appointment time.

The officer told us "We are here to help her become a citizen.  We are not trying to fail her.   Overall, it was a good experience, but I am very happy it is over.  Now, we wait for the oath.  Officer said 2 to 6 weeks.

My wife's oath ceremony was in Plano on Jan 26, 2023.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Thank you so much! I’m happy to hear that she passed.

We filed a lot of evidence with my I-751 so I’ll bring evidence from the date of filing up until our interview then. It’s been over 18 months since I filed my roc-application so I barely remember what was in it lol.

How long did she have to wait to find out the date for the ceremony?

Did the online status change at all from “oath ceremony will be scheduled” to “ceremony was scheduled” Or no? Were you able to see the details about the date and time online before it arrived at home?

Yes, it changed as you stated.  Yes, I was able to see copies of the notices online.

I have a couple of 'off topic' questions... kinda related to this thread but kinda separate. We have been told TWICE on the phone over the last month by the USCIS that our local office has requested an interview yet no notification of any scheduled interview yet.

1) So who actually schedules the interview?  I would have thought the local office so why are THEY requesting an interview? Or is this all handled by the National Benefits Center?

2) When people get to the point where the local office has officially requested an interview, approximately how much time typically elapses before the interview FINALLY gets scheduled?

For #2, I would think the lion's share of people might be oblivious to the amount of time that elapses because all this may have happened without their knowledge.  But just asking those who may be like us, routinely calling the CSR # for updates. We have been doing this lately because our wait time has been ridiculously long to date. We're hoping to FINALLY reach the finish line soon.

I believe it's local field office based on their schedule.

My understanding is, when interview is scheduled, an applicant gets the letter. There's not much time in between "requested" and "scheduled". They occur at the same time to my knowledge.

I wouldn't trust live person on the phone (tier 1), they usually make things up. No interview letter = nothing is requested yet in my understanding.

How were you able to speak to a person when calling the toll free number? I never get out of the loop with the automated voice response!

"update personal information" worked for me.

Also like the person above mention, the person on the phone was zero help to me.
