Hi All,

Does anyone know how long an ACRO police certificate is valid for, for the purposes of US immigration?

Thanks

Angela

Depends on if you still live there.  At least a year though.

I do still live here.  Just wondering if I can apply to get ahead of having documents ready for NVC stage.  I didn't know whether the certificate needed to be within the last 6 months for example?

@MarmiteC see this guidance on the UK Embassy & Consulates page:

Quote

What is the validity period of a police certificate?

With the exception of the U.K. police certificate which is considered valid for 12 months from the date of issuance, a police certificate is valid indefinitely, provided you do not return to the country and reside for six months or more, if it’s your country of birth or current residence. The period is twelve months for any other country.

However, the turnaround is pretty quick so you don't really need to rush to get it given the stage you are at. I opted for premium service and it only took a week to arrive, I don't think the regular service is that much slower.

If you want to get something done while you're waiting, you could pull together everything listed here that's required to apply for the certificate.

10 years' address history was a pain for me, and you'll need address history since the age of 16 for the DS-260 at the NVC stage anyway, so might as well get that togther.

Good luck!

Actually that is the wrong link.  It does not address the OP's question.  The Consulate does not care about any expiration dates from the source.  They only care about the issue date.  It's good for a year, but no need to get it early.

The corrected link I sent (https://www.acro.police.uk/Police-Certificates-FAQs) lists the things required to file for the UK police report, not the OPs original question, but I quoted myself in the correction to make that clear.

I also sent the following link in respect of OP's original question, which refers to the expiry of the ACRO police certificate and is from the London Consulate:
