Good morning Guys and Girls,

We are kind of in a bind and not sure what to do.

We are coming from a K-1 Fiance Visa. We had finished and got the 2 year conditional green card.
So the time for the 2 year conditional green card expired, but we put in an ap to remove the conditions to a 10 year back in Aug of 2021.
The case didnt move in any fashion.
So once the time came - we put in an app for the n-400 in Nov of 2022.

We have had no movement and so, since it has been 3 years for seeing my mother, grandmother - booked  ticket to travel overseas to see them 2 weeks ago. Non-refundable of course.

Low and behold - We get a notice that Green card is coming in the mail via usps  - On the app it shows the i-751 removal of conditions was approved and new GC printed and shipped.
However we also just got a notice that the IV was scheduled for the N-400.
*Drum Roll*

The date is exactly when I am overseas.
What recourse do I have?

We called USCIS to put in a request to reschedule the interview.

What else should we do?

What airline?

Booked I believe through Lufthanasa, but the flights are being operated by Austrian and Swiss as I have enjoyed those carriers. Paid for luggage and seat selection also   (-.-)

Rescheduling = risk of having to wait for many months or USCIS may forget about your case altogether.

I would prioritize immigration over a leasure trip, even if you want to see your family very bad. Can always visit them with more good news when you become a US citizen !

So here is the follow up question -

we already called into USCIS and put in a request to have the interview rescheduled. We cannot call them back and ask to cancel it I believe.

what to do about that?

When did you request the reschedule?

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

This morning around 8am.

we got a notification that the conditions were removed and green card shipped and then we got a notification that the n400 IV was also scheduled.

we didn’t get the letter in the mail but we’re able to see it when we logged into the myuscis webpage

I realize this is regarding our experience with an AOS interview and not a N400 interview. We ended up in a situation where we were scheduled for our AOS while visiting family back in my husband's home country. We asked for a reschedule and we were granted one. There was no issue.

I wanted to take the time today to tell everyone who replied here : Thank you so much for your input.

Everything went well and was great because the USCIS office was really nice.
I can now say I am a naturalized US Citizen!

So we had called in to reschedule, but then changed based on the input here.

When I showed up - she was surprised but knew we had put in a request. She told me she was glad I came to interview today as they would have not known how far out the rescheduled date would be and that I made a good decision.

So she cancelled the reschedule request and gave me the interview. She was so nice and amazing. I was so happy to have her as she made me feel calm and explained everything well.
