When does IR-1 holder get their A-Number?

Hi folks

I'm towards the end of the process for obtaining an IR-1. I understand that the visa is 'issued' only once the visa in the passport is stamped with the I-551 stamp on first entry to the United States and LRP status is granted from that point.

I want to know whether the immigrant is given their A-Number at that point (at the port of entry), or whether you have to wait until the proper green card is issued to get that.

Thanks!

The "A" number is also called a USCIS Registration number.  It will be printed on the visa.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Thanks @Crazy Cat - so I'll have the A-Number as soon as the Consulate returns my passport to me with the visa inside?

Yes.

Sorry @Crazy Cat - another quick question.

As part of obtaining membership of a professional association in the US for my work, I need to answer the following question:

Quote

When the certificate of alien registration or an alien registration receipt card has been issued to you.

The question is obviously worded in a slightly odd way, but I think I take it to mean:

Quote

On what date was the certificate of alien registration or an alien registration receipt card issued to you?

So - would that date be (i) when the consulate issues the visa; (ii) when the visa is stamped when I enter the US for the first time; or (iii) when I receive my 'proper' green card in the mail after I've entered.

Thanks!

I think it means when you become a legal resident.  That is when you enter the US via the immigrant visa.

Some applicants do, but not all, like those with expedited cases not scheduled by NVC.

Does having the A# in the interview letter is a good sign of approval?
