My financee still has not been able to get her philippines passport. I am getting very very woried. The paper work is heading to pi for her K1 visa as we speak and could already be there. I understand she cant do her cfo or medical or interview without her passport. She filed for her sss id over a month ago and they say could be 6 more weeks. She went and paid a travel agent 4500 peso and after a week he told her theers nothing he can do without sss id or old id. Its total BS that he took her money if he knew this upfront. She has so much paperwork but its all new, she has nso birth cert, voters card, nbi clearance and postal id. Her school records are gone and can not be gotten. Anyone have any answer's? I am at my wits end over this.

My wife could not get her passport until she took the CFO class. She applied at the DFA (I think) in Manila on Monday, and picked up her passport on Thursday. This was a changed passport, not new, so that might make a difference.

i got my passport a month before my fiance filed the petition. what they asked from me at the DFA were:

1. original NSO copy of my birth certificate

2. photocopy of my NBI clearance

3. three (3) passport pics

4. original copy of my birth certificate from local civil registrar, authenticated by the NSO

5. original copy of voters certificate

6. photocopy of my two (2) valid IDs

she needs to present 2 valid IDs. i think thats the problem why DFA can't issue her a passport. they need proofs... what i presented was my college ID and my employment ID.

i didnt tell DFA staff that i will be using the passport for the fiance visa application coz they will require me to go to manila to have my CFO seminar before they will issue me a passport. manila is far from my place. i will just have the seminar when i get to manila for the interview/medical.

Hi Larry,

Yes, the Philippines can be a frustrating place to get things done. When you say your gal neends her sss number..that's a bit confusing, becuase its pretty unusual that many fiilipinos , particularly younger ones would have this. Here is the link to the official requirements for getting a Philippines passport:

http://www.dfa.gov.ph/consular/passport.ht...me%20applicants

One of the funny quirks about IDs in the philippines, is that typically the ID has to still be 'current' or 'active'. So former employer id's, if she doesnt work there anymore or former student ids, if she is no longer a student, often wont be accepted. I never could understand this point, since the ID is simply being offered as an 'Identifier' of the person, not a 'membership' to the issuing organization (employer, school, etc). Of well....when in rome...

Another thing you will sometimes run into with IDs is that some places require those IDs to not be brand new, but instead have been issued for some amount of time - It varies, but I have seen examples of this from 1 month to 3 months.

Interestingly enough, the Drivers License has 'saved the day' for several people I know. Even if they dont driver, they have gone to get a drivers license simply to have this valid government issued id that they can then use for other purposes.. You can see on the Passport site lnk that a DL is one of the valid IDs that is acceptable for passports.

Voting is a big deal in the philippines, expecially in the provinces. You could ask your call if she can get her voter affidavit from her regional office. Also, NBI clearance is (relatively) easy to get.

If they are saying you absoutely MUST have sss, push back or try somewhere else. Ask what the other ID options are possible.

Warm Regards,

Samby

ok, Thanks to who wrote so far, here is what she has.

#1- nso Birth Cert.

#2- Voters registation card

#3- Nbi clearance

#4- Postal Id

All her id's are less than 4 months old. Her son is 3 and its nothing for his passport to get approved.

She filed for her sss id over a month ago and they say another 6 weeks to get it.

All school records destroyed years ago.

She has no work id and no drivers liceance.

She told the people at clarke that she wanted passport to travel, not for K1 visa. I thinks it rotten what has happen so far. I will do anything now for her to get her passport.

Have her go to DFA and apply for expedited PP. Takes about 3 days.

Sounds like she has plenty of time tho but in PI you never know!

Best to get it out of the way ASAP and move on to the next things like CENOMAR and doing CFO.

Jen and Larry,

Try to submit a baptismal certificate that is one of a valid proof, if they refuse to accept it you can go to their legal office, most of them are helpful.

Yes, I remember my fiance had to get the baptismal certificate before the passport. Then when applying for passport it was another delay. They made her get her CFO and bring back proof before issueing the passport.

hi larry!

the company where i worked owns a travel agency. it is in their agency where i applied for a passport. payment is only 850pesos for 8 to 10 days processing and if you want rush which will only take at most 3 days processing, it's 1,200pesos. so your 4,500pesos paid to the agency was really too much.

here are the following requirements for applying for passport:

1. Birth Certificate from NSO

2. 2 of any of the following documents:

= NBI

= TOR (Transcript of Records)

= Baptismal Certifcate

(most people present the NBI and Baptismal because this is easy to secure. in my case, i did submit my NBI and TOR)

3. 3 pcs. passport picture

4. photocopy of 2 valid IDs. the following are only considered valid IDs (as i can remember):

= Company ID

= SSS ID

= Driver's License

= Voters ID

if she only has a Postal ID which i understand is the same with the Voters ID, then she needs one more valid ID. that's why the agency required her to file an SSS ID. it will really take a month to secure an SSS ID because of so many applicants. she can try talk to somebody with a position in SSS that she badly needed the SSS ID. they might prioritize the processing of her ID and might release it earlier.

hope this info helps :o)

A valid ID is only asked if the first time applicant doesn't have a BC issued by NSO in SECPA paper. This valid ID should be submitted together with an authenticated copy of BC issued by the local civil registrar (meaning in the city hall where the birth was registered).

To read more on FAQ's about passport application, you may check the philippine government's website http://www.gov.ph/faqs/passport.asp

She has no NSO issued BC? Did she request for a copy already and got a negative reply? My Dad requested a copy of his BC from NSO and got a negative reply - they don't have his BC on record, but we have a certified true copy of his BC issued by the local civil registrar when his birth was registered by my grannies. So we took the negative notice back to the province, together with the certified true copy of his BC we have. The local civil registrar then forwarded their copy to NSO through LBC and told us to make a follow up with NSO after 2 weeks. And after 2 weeks, NSO was able to issue a copy of my Dad's BC in SECPA paper.

If there really is no copy of BC even in the local registrar, they can always make a late registration. Although this would be a little more complicated coz the local civil registrar will require sworn affidavit of local residents who can testify that they have known the applicant to be born on the said date and place as claimed.

Larry we are in the exact position you are in concerning getting the passport, I just got back from Cebu last night now we need only 1 more picture ID which will be a student drivers license. Eve is going to apply for the student license next week and will get it the same day, maybe Jen can also try the student license. By the way congratulations on your medical and interview dates.
