I just got my interview scheduled for March. I am planning on going outside US in May. Do I need to apply for US passport after naturalization? In that case i dont think the. passport will come on time for me to travel in May. Or will I be able to use my old passport?
Please let me know if anyone had the same issue. Thank you.

Check out the gov site.  I don't know if your trip would qualify as "urgent"

Since the trip is pre planned you also have the option of making the urgent travel appointment with the passport office within the 14 days of travel. Its cheaper than using external passport agencies as the only extra fees required is the standard passport expedite and shipping fee. I recently had good experience doing that at the SFO passport office, they were able to schedule an appointment within the same week i called them and issued the passport on the day of the appointment. They did require proof of travel in addition to the other documents.

I had a friend who did just that. He had his oath ceremony a couple of weeks ago and needs to travel abroad next week. He called the passport agency's phone line for urgent service, had an in-person appointment a few days later, and passport in hand two days after that. The expedite fee is only $60 extra, don't bother with these agencies that charge you hundreds of dollars to expedite the processing.  You must show proof of travel within 14 days, though.

To give everyone an idea, passport application for my daughter (born here, 10yo) that was submitted on Dec 31st 2022 is still "In Process". I'd say 5 weeks is unrealistic at this point.

Did you pay the expedite price?

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Nope, there was no reason to. Regular processing. It is at least more than 5 weeks, who knows how long.

If I am not mistaken, wouldn't it be possible to go for the interview but postpone the oath until after returning? Then traveling on the old passport would still work. Please correct me if I am wrong.

This would be the best solution if they will let me schedule oath after i return. Thanks

USCIS will schedule the oath ceremony.  You can then ask for a reschedule.

I have a trip outside US 45 days after the N400 interview. Can I have the oath ceremony to be scheduled after I come back from the trip or do they decide the oath ceremony date for us? Has anyone scheduled their ceremony like that?

Oath ceremony dates depends on FO. Phoenix does it every 2 weeks, and some places it takes weeks/months.

But if you get the oath ceremony you can always ask to reschedule.
