No. I don't have a romantic vision of love.

I'd like to think there are forces at play beyond mere chance when it came to meeting our future spouses, but I believe most of the significant events in our life are all that way.

I completely agree with this as well. There's an ancient Chinese saying that goes something like " An invisible red thread connects those destined to meet...the thread may stretch or tangle, but never breaks." For Jerry and I, we know that God brought is together at just the right time in our lives (too many things that could not be explained by mere coincidences!), but that's just us. :)

I believe some are more compatible with others, yet I believe there are some who fit together like a puzzle, perfectly matched. Maybe that's what some call being soulmates. I dunno...I just like thinking that my husband is the one perfect for me. We have both been in other relationships, when we met it hit like lightning. We just knew. Still, I don't refer to my beloved as my soulmate. He's just the other half of me.

Karen, how is that you can express exactly what I wanted to say?? :)

Maybe you're soulmates. :P

YES! and i found her. we're perfect for each other.

Impossible.

Steven, just because you do not believe in soulmates, does not actually mean they don't exist! ;)

Well, soulmates or not, I think it's impossible to be perfect for each other in the literal sense and I see that as potentially dangerous should a spouse find themselves in an unhealthy relationship. Whether we are perfect for each other remains to be seen as we have yet to experience being with them through all of life's trials. If a couple in their 70's, who've been married for 40 + years said they were perfect for each other, I'd be more apt to believe them.

I meant ultimate soulmates, as I stated in the first post.

I believe in the casual use of the term soulmates, and I think that definition leaves room for the possibility of a person having multiple soulmates.

The ultimate soulmate however, one and only one person, I don't believe in. I don't believe in destiny either, and I guess they go hand in hand. If there is only one person who is your soulmate and there are 6 some odd billion people in this world, there are very, very few people who would be able to find their soulmate.

That doesn't mean they don't exist, they're just impossible to find. I personally prefer to believe in this concept of soulmate: Soulmate (or soul mate) is a term sometimes used to designate someone with whom one has a feeling of deep and natural affinity, friendship, love, intimacy, sexuality, and/or compatibility.

I prefer that definition as well. If soulmates do exist according to the first definition, then that pretty much means that we're all settling for something "less".

steven i'm pretty sure you disagreed because it was me that said it. which is cool...i don't care what you think. everyone has had different life experiences that shape their opinions & personalities. i absolutely believe me & my SO are a perfect match & i also absolutely believe we all have a soulmate out there & that i found mine.

It's a romantic ideal and I admire that part of it. As I said earlier, I like to believe that there are forces working that help bring people together. But just in the case of when someone loses their spouse to cancer and after some time remarries - that would be a heavy shadow on the surviving spouse if she/he believed the first marriage was with their soulmate.

(no hard feelings here, brother...we may disagree on many issues but that doesn't mean we can never agree) :star:

Sasha and I knew within a few hours together that we had a profound connection with each other. We feel very deeply that we are indeed two halves of one soul. I too was of the opinion that such things didn't exist. But when you find that person, you know it quickly and surely. It's almost like an ache that you can feel in your bones. When we are apart for long periods, our bodies and minds just feel absent or weakened. But when we reconnect, we feel strong and full of life and health. I dont think that two people simply in love feel this way. It only happens with your true soulmate. I do believe in this concept. 100%, but i do not believe that any God has anything to do with it.

i never really liked the phrases.. "he completes me" or "he is my other half"... shouldn't we bring 100 % of ourselves into a relationship??

I prefer the 'ol ball and chain. :P
