The big question is why it took this long to take the obvious step, and what the shootdown now gained.  Presumably, China gets real-time data from these crafts; retrieving them would save them money, but unless Beijing is staffed by total idiots, their missions are not reliant on retrieval.  Biden essentially waited until the potential for intelligence acquisition had been completed.  [...]

Still not sure why China needs to use a balloon since the US populace, especially the younger generation, are fine with willingly providing so much information to them.

So three times during the Trump Administration Chinese spy balloons flew over, or in the words of CNN 'transiting the US', and no one including NORAD knew or saw it?  My understanding is this is clearly visible, and in this case it wasn't until the folks in Montana started talking about it that the media started noticing.  Anyway, the heck with Trump, what is more important is how inept is our military leadership is?  Regardless, this just sounds like a Lincoln Project disinformation campaign to alleviate the fact that Old Corrupt Joe allowed this spy balloon to complete its mission before doing anything about it.

If NORAD and the US military didn't know about it, or even if they did but didn't tell Trump, then whose fault is THAT?

As for visible, yes it was.  A friend sent me a pic of it from his personal phone.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
