I have heard that we can't shoot it down because of the risk to individuals below..... it's Montana... I mean... whatever. Can we pinpoint exactly if it really is in a populated area? I've seen some radar reports that show we have a lot of stuff up there surrounding it, so it is doubtful it's been able to collect anything useful... scientists have plotted it's originating trajectory, and some suspect that they used a unique weather pattern setup to get it here. Kind of risky in it's chances, so it's a wonder how it got so far. I've also heard that it is somewhere around 90k feet. This supposedly provided some challenges, as requiring F22s to monitor rather than other units, and I don't know if it's true, as I haven't got my grandfather's military aviation geek skills, some kind of treaty involving international airspace above a certain altitude? FWIW, the reports indicate that POTUS wanted it gone, but the generals said no? Still skeptical as to the excuse why... There is an additional balloon that will reach us soon on the same path. I am sure that there is all sorts of these things in the sky we don't know about... 

 

I still have fond memories of the giant military spy blimp accident in 2015. We hated the stupid looking costly thing (it looked like a giant piece of anatomy).. and it ended up getting loose and going all over the place.

I wonder what would happen if it was a PLA-AF bomber flying? Would we not shoot it down for the same reason. 
 

World record skydive is 130,000 ft. This threat is at 63,000 feet.  Ok more of a space dive than sky dive. 
 

Drop  some parachuters on it.  Make some pin pricks so that it slowly leaks. There is a camera on it now tracking it live. The camera can follow it down and people in the affected area can be ordered to shelter in their basements. Cuz Montana has basements.  
 

Can you imagine any other president tolerating this?

 

You are what you tolerate Joe: a big empty gas bag.  
 

I give PLA credit for the genius behind this.  Now the USA has to invest in making high altitude drones with robotics that can safely deflate high altitude balloons. Or USAF / USSF / USN already has this capability but don’t want to reveal  it to a live YouTube feed.

Everything I'm seeing this morning is saying it's just not so easy to get this thing down. Lots of military guys arguing about potential possibilities and what could go wrong. If the goal is to point out we're not as great with capability as it seems, well...

A balloonist called in to the Clay-&-Buck show today.

The Chinese thing is almost certainly a helium balloon.

Nothing fast happens with balloons.

If 3 golf-ball-sized holes are put in it, it'll descend with danger to those on land.

This would spare the on-board equipment for inspection.

 

The conclusion is that Bidementia should not be in Delaware as usual, but should be in the Situation Room with all his generals to determine what to do (bring or shoot it down).  What clueless wimps.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
