Gotta compare them to a similar ICE car, like a Camry.  NOW how does that price tag look?

No doubt.  You can get a brand new decked out camry for around 38.  Now that is v6 leather heated seats etc.

The SE nice rims etc runs about 30

Btw I think we can see the light at the end of the tunnel on crazy car prices. Not quite there yet but it's easing up. The supply is still sketchy but an 800+ beacon looking at potentially 6 % interest rates and the economy tanking is slowing things.

We are doing 1k under MSRP on Tundra.  Unheard of 6 months ago

The other aspect is that used car prices are coming down FAST.  Bought a new truck in January 22 (traded in a 4-year old truck), and tried to trade it in back in Oct 22 for a 2023 model of the same trim.  The dealership offered me LESS for a 10-month old truck than I got for my 4-year old truck I traded in on the 2022.

No thank you!

Was the dealership trying to charge MSRP plus?

Absolutely.  Now there are those that will buy a performance EV for the fun, just like those that would buy an impractical Lambo, Porsche, or Bugatti, but for the everyday purchaser, the business case has to be there.

You said this yesterday, and this morning, this article popped up:

Quote

Hilton CEO Chris Nassetta says selling his black Porsche 944 was the best financial decision he ever made.

That's because buying it in the first place was his worst. He was in his 20s and fresh off a breakup when he saw the sleek model in a used car lot near his home in Arlington, Virginia. He had a third party ensure the car and the deal were legitimate, then paid $20,000 for it, taking out a loan to cover part of the cost.

"It nearly broke me," Nassetta, 60, tells CNBC Make It. "I spent all my money on that stupid car."

Exactly.  I would have to have the disposable income and want one just becuse.  I do think Hybrids are starting to make more sense as the price points get closer and closer to non Hybrids. Especially with battery warranty at 10 years 150k.

Funny thing about the hybrid Tundra. The MPG gain is like 1 mile per gallon but massive HP and tourqe gains.

Toyota is not sold on EV being the future.  I think they are looking at Hydrogen fuel cell Hybrids. The problem is currently very limited Hydrogen filling infrastructure.  The sell the Hydrogen fuell cell Mirai only on the west coast.

That is not the only problem with fuel cells.  There are a lot of challenges with storing and routing the H2 on the vehicle.

I would never want to own a fancy car -- or even many foreign cars -- unless they're fully under a repair warranty.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

In Tesla’s early days, the company offered unlimited free Supercharging to convince people to switch to electric vehicles. Those with a fancy Model S or Model X didn’t need to pay for gas or electricity. It’s a huge perk, but now it looks like Tesla wants it back.

Those with an older Model S/X can use any of Tesla’s thousands of Superchargers completely free. And while Tesla eventually stopped offering that freebie to new customers, many still take advantage of it and have yet to replace older vehicles.

In an effort to take away free charging and get those users into a newer vehicle, Tesla is offering an additional $5,000 toward a trade-in for a new EV. Several users on Reddit shared images of an email sent out to owners, and it reads:

“Current Tesla Model S or Model X owners with active unlimited free Supercharging are eligible for an additional $5,000 toward their trade-in value. To qualify, owners must trade in their Model S or Model X with unlimited free Supercharging and purchase a new Model S or Model X.”

Another major drawback of EVs.  Not really sure I would want to drive an EV that had been in an accident, even a minor one.

Lots of Crashed EVs With Minor Battery Damage Are Being Totaled

EVs are often touted to be more reliable due to the lack of moving parts compared to a car powered by a combustion engine. However, the few critical components which can fail are often quite expensive. One of these is the battery pack which can often account for nearly half of an electric car's price tag.

Often, these packs aren't serviced at a typical dealership or body shop. This means that if the packs are damaged as part of an accident, an insurance company will often write off the entire cost of car rather than the repair of a single internal component. According to Reuters, this has led to a number of low-mileage EVs quickly making their way to salvage yards and auctions with even the slightest battery-related damage.
