So why wouldn’t you charge your EV with your backup generator?

Yes if it meets code.

HOA doesn’t want that. Drives down property values.

We have an indoor drying rack that we use.  I never put t-shirts in the dryer, and of course the wife has some clothes that do not do well in the dryer.  We just put the rack in the guest bedroom and turn on the ceiling fan.

The washing machine does a pretty good job extracting the water.

If the humidity wasn't ridiculous and it didn't pollen so bad, I'd hang clothes.  Grew up hanging clothes and quite like summer, line dried clothes.  Unfortunately, they'd just turn yellow from the pollen and go moldy before they properly dried down here.

Humidity, we have in spades, so we hang our clothes inside.  Just two of us, so not an issue like it would be for a larger family.

Not needed if you have a front-load washer.  The clothes come out so dry I have literally thrown on a freshly-washed shirt to answer the door when someone rang unexpectedly while I was hanging the clothes up.

We have a top loader Maytag, no dripping when it finishes.

We use a rack like this.  We are just trying to be "green"- 👽

You’ve never met my last front load washer.  And it will be my last front load washer too. I’m back to standard top loaders that don’t have all that fancy water saving, energy saving technology that tries and fails  to detect how wet the clothes are  before stopping the spin cycle. $518 new.  If it lasts year that is under $2 a day.

There are front load washers that are combo wash / dryers. They take about 6 hours to run a full wash / dry cycle.  And then they come out wet.

Unfortunately, most of the new top loaders have "fancy" tech these days too.  You have to load your items into the drum in a donut shape, leaving the space where once upon a time there was an agitator, free and clear.  If you don't, the new fangled tech doesn't work properly to actually wash your clothes.

I dunno...tech doesn't necessarily make things easier IMO.

The secret I learned about the front loader that kicked the bucket and reeked was the clothes come out dry because... well it just barely washed them to begin with. But anything else like towels or blankets felt like I just removed them from a bathtub soak. Heavy, wet, and not spun.

So I recently switched to a top loader. What I discovered is that they aren't like the old ones. The motor is different and it's actually an impeller rather than full agitator. Most anything it does is via violent shaking (you can understand how the samsung models went airborn and exploded). Of course the biggest thing we notice is that they do not have much by way of water saving and that has increased the bill. It has worked so far I guess. These models still have sensing, which can be a bit off at times, depending on the item.. but I am still skeptical at how clean it actually gets things.

Yeah, the dual-purpose ones suck, IMO.  Used one in Korea for a coupla years, and just gave up on drying.  It got HOT, hot enough to melt/shrink some clothes, but they would still be wet as you say.

I don't even remember the brand of mine, but I know it's a 1999 model, and still going strong.  As I said above, when I set it to high spin, the clothes are barely damp when I pull them out.  Put it this way... I have NEVER had a single drop of water hit the floor when extracting the clothes.

Our Maytag top loader does not have an regular agitator, but there is no restriction as to how to load it.  It has a huge capacity and can even accommodate a king size bed top cover.

I saw this video from an appliance repair person that said the non-agitator versions of the washers work most effectively when you "donut" the clothes in.  It's not a well communicated piece of information, probably because the companies want you to boot the machine and buy something apparently better.

I know when I take the clothes our of the washer, they are fairly well wrapped around each other.  Heck, when doing bedding, the sheets always end up wrapped together.
