You won't get 48 months extension in passport.

If you ask for ADIT (I-551) stamp you'd have to provide reason why you need it. Because you already have an expired GC and extension letter, it's going to be hard to convince anybody at USCIS. Even ifyou can convince them, I wouldn't do it. Your current extension letter is 48 months. The stamp in passport is only valid for 12 months. In a year, you'll have to ask for it again. Also, a lot of the times, when you get a stamp, your plastic GC is taken away. Meaning you will have to depend on USCIS to give you these stamps in passport. You also create dependency on passport validity. If your passport is about to expire, you'll have to renew it first to get the stamp.

In short, you shouldn't do it.

I travelled to Canada and two European countries on extension letter. OK so far (knock on the wood).

Thank you so much. Now it makes more sense to not get the passport stamped. According to our current timeline, we won't get anything approved until the end of 2024. Canada specifically states that you can travel with an expired GC and an extension letter, but that's the only country that allows it. We actually want to travel to the UAE, Mexico, and, if possible, Costa Rica. However, these countries generally require a valid GC to enter, so we're not sure if they will accept the extension letter from USCIS

Do you have any other passport? I heard if you are using a Canada passport to enter Mexico that should work. This was what I found in another thread.

Indian Passport 😢, so GC is the only way to enter Mexico and other Central American countries.

It's been almost 3 months and no biometric reuse update so far..

I've got the 48 months extension in the first 10 days...

Anybody else in same situation?

Took about 5 months in 2021 to get biometrics reused. So it's not unusual. What service center is your case at?

Same deal, also Potomac, applied January of 2023. I know someone who applied in September who also still hasn't seen a reuse notification.

Hi everyone, here my current status:

- Sent all the paperworks on 02/21
- Paperworks received on 02/22

- NOA dated 02/24

- extension letter received by email 03/06

Now I just gonna have to wait countless months :). Question: Are there cases where applicants have received ROE within few weeks from filing? or ROE are supposed to be requested only deep in the process?

How did you receive extension letter by email! Would Love to get it that way if

possible

Has anyone applied for a visa to a foreign country using their expired Green Card, extension letter, and foreign passport? If so how did it go? We are planning to apply for visas to several Central American countries, which are otherwise free with a valid Green Card

Your extention letter means that your green card is still valid with it so any countries that are not required a visa if you have a green card will be good to go to without a visa but you will need to bring your green card and extention letter.

I read on Reddit that a few people were denied entry to Mexico because their Green Card was expired and they didnt accept the extension letter. I also checked the websites of Nicaragua and Costa Rica, and they clearly state that they do not accept expired Green Cards or extension letters. :( . Have you tried it?

Have been in and out of Costa Rica twice with expired card...no issues at all. Didn't even ask to see it. I assume the level of scrutiny you get is based on the passport you are traveling on.
